I 1-3-84 Inter-Corn TO: FROH: SUBJECT: WILLIAM HUSTON, CITY MANAGER BOB LEDENDECKER, DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC WORKS/CITY ENGINEER SUPPLEMENTAL REPORT TO WATER WELL LOCATION STUDY The City Council, at their December 19th meeting, requested additional information regarding any potential savings that could be realized by the drilling of two water wells under one contract in lieu of two separate contracts. Contact was made with three contractors to determine what the cash saving might be with respect to including two wells under one contract in lieu of just one well. Two contractors indicated a saving of move-in/mobilization cost, which was estimated at about $5,000.00. The third contractor would indicate a potential saving of about 10%'of one well cost or about $30,000.00. The City's consultant and staff estimates the total cost saving to be between $5,000 and $10,O00, Which would include constrUction and plan/specification preparation. The City's in-house contract administration cost would result in a saving of about $1,000 for the two combined projects in lieu of two separate contracts. -Bob Ledendecker Director of Public Works/City Engineer BLijr cc: Earl Rowenhorst
