MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE
TUSTIN CITY COUNCIL
MONDAY, AUGUST 27th, 1956
COUNCILMEN PRESENT: Frank E. Bacon Jr, W. L. Tadlock, Vincent L.
Humeston and Lee A. Byrd.
COUNCILMEN ABSENT: Jerome C. Kidd.
CITY ATTORNEY: C. Arthur Nisson, present.
Mayor Pro Tem, Frank Bacon, Jr. opened the meeting
at 8:30 P. M.
Upon motion by Councilman Tadlock, seconded by Councilman Byrd and duly
carried, Minutes of last meeting as corrected and mailed out were
approved.
NAME OF Motion by Councilman Tadlock, seconded by Councilman Byrd that, that
FRONTAGE certain 50 foot in width street commonly called "Frontage Road" laid
ROAD out by the California Highway Commission adjacent to and Northerly of
CHANGED Santa Ana Freeway and connecting South "B" Street and South "D" Street
TO GRISET be designated "Griset Road". Motion carried.
ROAD.
Motion by Councilman Tadlock, seconded by Councilman Humeston that
City Engineer McBride look into the matter of curbs and gutters on
Griset Road and report his findings to the Council. Motion carried.
The public hearing on rezoning certain areas within the city was
re-opened. Mr. Jacobson of Jacobson & Young, contractors, made
inquiry regarding the setback on "Griset Road." City Engineer McBride
explained the proposed provisions of the Ordinance which were satis-
factory. There being no further questions, the hearing was declared
closed.
Upon Motion by Councilman Byrd, seconded by Councilman Tadlock that
City Engineer McBride's suggestions regarding the setback provisions,
be incorporated in Ordinance 102, was duly carried.
Motion by Councilman Humeston, seconded by Councilman Tadlock that
Ordinance No. 102, "an Ordinance amending Ordinance 71 (Section 5 (a)
and 5(c) concerning Annexations designated as Claus, Griset, Pankey,
Gentry and other areas within the city", be read by title only. Motion carried.
FIRST Motion by Councilman Byrd, seconded by Councilman Humeston, that
READING Ordinance No. 102 be approved for first reading. All Councilmen
OF ORD. voting Aye.
NO.102.
City Engineer McBride informed the Council that all provisions of
Ordinance No. 95 regarding curbs and sidewalks have been complied
with and upon Motion by Councilman Humeaton, seconded by Councilman
Byrd, that Jean Thorman be refunded the $168.00 deposited by
her, and that In the future the City Clerk, upon a letter of com-
pliance from the City Engineer, be instructed to refund such money
put up as a bond. Motion carried.
Motion by Councilman Byrd, seconded by Councilman Humeston that the
contract of the Sully-Miller Contracting Co., for the improvement
of North A. B and C Streets be accepted as completed in accordance
with plans and specifications and as recommended by City Engineer
McBride. $863.40 or 10% of the total contract price is to be retained
and paid, 35 days after completion of the contract, upon certification
of Engineer McBride that no leins or attachments have been filed.
Motion carried.
Motion by Councilman Humeston, seconded by Councilman Byrd that City
Engineer McBride be authorized to contract the work on Prospect
Avenue on a force account basis, not to exceed $1000.00. Motion
carried.
Motion by Councilman Byrd, seconded by Councilman Tadlock that
Engineer McBride be authorized to complete the project on 3rd and
F. Street, cost not to exceed $1000.00. Motion carried.
Motion by Councilman Byrd, seconded by Councilman Tadlock that
Engineer McBride be authorized to complete the work on the North side
of East Main between Prospect Avenue and F. Street, cost not to exceed
$1000.00. Motion carried.
Motion by Councilman Tadlock, seconded by Councilman Byrd that the
Foster and Kleiser Co. be allowed to erect an outdoor advertising
sign at 307 West First Street, Lot 1, Block A, Tract 335, to con-
form to all the provisions of Ordinance No. 87. Motion carried.
Motion by Councilman Tadlock, seconded by Councilman Humeston that
the deed from the State of California be referred to the City Attorney
for checking. Duly carried.
Motion by Councilman Tadlock, seconded by Councilman Humeston that
City Attorney Nisson be authorized to draw a contract for fire calls
between the City and the owner of the Revere House Cafe at First
and Tustin Avenue and that the Mayor be authorized to execute same.
Motion carried.
Motion by Councilman Humeston, seconded by Councilman Byrd that
Engineer McBride be authorized to investigate the getting of an
easement for an alley for sewer purposes from First to Second Street,
between D Street and Prospect Avenue. Motion carried.
Motion by Councilman Humeston, seconded by Councilman Tadlock
that the City Clerk purchase a new adding machine, cost after trade in
of old machine, not to exceed $250.00. Motion carried.
Motion by Councilman Tadlock, seconded by Councilman Byrd and
duly carried that the bills be paid.
