HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC MINUTES 1956 06 11 MINUTES 0F THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE TUSTIN CITY COUNCIL HELD ON MONDAY, JUNE 11, 1956, IN THE CITY HALL COUNCILMEN PRESENT: Jerome C. Kidd, Arthur O. Park, Frank E. Bacon, Jr., W.L. Tadlock and Lee A. Byrd. COUNCILMEN ABSENT: City Clerk, S. C. Penington. CITY ATTORNEY: C. Arthur Nisson, Jr., was present and acted as Clerk pro tem. The Tustin City Council Meeting was called to order by Mayor Kidd at 8:45 P.M., Monday, June 11, 1956. Motion was made, seconded and carried, that the minutes of the regular meeting of May 28, 1956, be approved as mailed out. Mr. Meek of Hannaford Trailer Park was present to discuss plans for alterations and improvements of facilities at said trailer park. City Attorney Nisson suggested Mr. Meek draw up his plans and present them to City Building Inspector Kiser. If all speci- fications and requirements had been met, then the plans could be presented to the council for approval at the next regular meeting. Councilman Park moved, Byrd seconded, that the bids received on the improvement of North "A", "B" and "C" Streets be opened and read. City Engineer McBride estimated the cost at $9,250.77. The bids, opened by City Attorney Nisson were as follows: Cox Brothers Bidders Bond 10% $11,182.75 Griffith Co. " " $1000.00 9,776.20 R. J. Noble Co. " " 10% 10,776.75 Sully-Miller Constr. " " $1100.00 9,495.42 City Engineer McBride informed the council that bids were all in order. It was recommended by City Engineer McBride that the contract be awarded Sully-Miller Construction Company. Council- man Tadlock moved, Park seconded that this be done and the other bids be rejected and returned by the City Clerk. Motion was carried. City Building Inspector Kiser asked that he be given authority to deny final inspection to Mr. Prescott of the Par Que Santiago Trailer Park, stating that Mr. Prescott had been issued a stop work order because he would not comply with State Regulations by testing a sewer line on his property for seepage. Mr. Prescott also had ignored the stop work order. Councilman Tadlock moved that the City Council stand behind Inspector Kiser in his refusal to grant a final inspection until Mr. Prescott had complied with State Regulations. Councilman Park moved, Byrd seconded, duly carried, that City Attorney Nisson notify Mr. Prescott of the City Councils decision in the matter. A request for an increase in janitors pay was discussed. Con- sensus of opinion was that the salary remain as is for the present. The matter of future maintenance of the orange grove on 6th. St. was discussed. The matter was referred to councilman Bacon, Park Commissioner, to contact parties in regard to maintaining the grove. Councilman Park moved, seconded by Councilman Bacon, that a letter be sent to the Directors of County Sanitation Districts No. 1 and No. 7 of Orange County, stating that the City Council of the City of Tustin urges the Directors of Districts No. 1 and No. 7 of Orange County California to proceed with the proposed con- solidation of said two sanitation districts as soon as possible in order to give the people an opportunity to express themselves; and it was the opinion of the City Council that the benefits re- sulting from consolidation of both districts outweigh the possible detriments to either district. Motion adopted unanimously. Chief .of Police johansen requested that the City Council g~ant him permission .to receive his salary in lieu of a vacation. Tadlock moved, Bacon seconded, motion carried. Councilman Park moved, Byrd seconded, to pay the bills pre- sented. The motion was duly carried. The meeting was thepeupon adjourned. Jerome C. Kidd Mayor C.
