Downtown Landscape and Street Improvement Plan
RECOt~qENDED AG~flON
After a review of the concept plan by the consultant, staff recommends the
Redevelopment Agency direct Berryman and Stephenson, Inc., to proceed with
the development of final construction documents for the downtown area
landscape and street improvement plan.
BACKGROUND
One of the major goals of the Town Center Redevelopment Agency is the
revitalization of the Old Town Tustin area. Toward this goal, the City
retained the consulting firm of Berryman and Stephenson to prepare a
conceptual plan and final construction documents for a landscape and street
improvement plan in the downtown area.
The consultant has utilized the input from the Old Town Task Force and
staff to complete the conceptual design phase. As a portion of this phase
of the design process, this final conceptual plan was presented to the
downtown merchants, owners and concerned citizens.
DISCUSSION
The meeting to present the final conceptual plan was held on Thursday,
February 18, 1982 at 5:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers. The downtown area
people were contacted either by telephone or a handout delivered door-to-
door in the downtown area. Several of the meeting notices were left at the
Chamber of Commerce office.
Approximately twenty-five people attended the meeting. The general
consensus was of great enthusiasm and desire to proceed with the project.
Concerns were expressed and these included: increase the use of the inter-
locking brick pavers, loss of some of the on-street parking on E1Camino
Real, and the redesign of the island at E1Camino Way and E1Camino Real.
These concerns were noted by the consultant and will be reviewed.
