B~r.~.OTS AND BALLOT MATERIALS 3 BE PRINTED IN ENGLISH CNLY AND tHAT SAMPLE BALLOTS BE PRINT~u IN AT LEAST TEN-POINT TYPE 4 WHEREAS, the City of Tustin encourages their citizens to become more involved in government; and WHEREAS, in order for the citizens to be aware of the choices in issues and candidates contained in the official material sent to the citi- zens by their Registrar of Voters, it is necessary that said material be printed in a minimum of ten-point type; and 9 WHEREAS, in order to become a citizen of the United States, a candidate must be able to speak and read English; and 10 WHEREAS, in order to be a registered voter, a candidate must be a 11 citizen of the United States; and 12 WHEREAS, the government does not print the ballot in Polish, Italian, French, Chinese, Swahili, Vietnamese, Korean, or any other foreign 13 language except Spanish; and 14 WHEREAS, Senator S. I. Hayakawa has sponsored a constitutional amendment to make English the official language; and 15 WHEREAS, sample ballots should be printed on white ~aper with 16 black ink. 17 NO~, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Tustin City Council here- by requests all Orange County cities, the County government, our State rep- 18 resentatives from our district, and the Federal representatives fr0~ our district to pass a law to put this Resolution in action. 19 PASSED AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the City Council of the 20 City of Tustin, California, on July 6, 1981. 21 22 23 MAYOR 24 25 CITY CLERK 26 27 28
