HomeMy WebLinkAboutRDA STREET TREE 07-19-82AGENDA DATE: JULY 14, 1982 REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY Inter-Corn TO: FROM: S UBJ ECT: WILLIAM HUSTON, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, TUSTIN COMMUNITY REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY BOB LEDENDECKER, DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC WORKS/CITY ENGINEER SELECTION OF STREET TREE FOR EL CAMINO REAL RECOMMENDATION: That the Tustin Community Redevelopment Agency authorize the planting of the Western Redbud tree at the northerly and southerly ends of E1Camino Real as designed by the consultant landscape architect. BACKGROUND: At their meeting of July 6, 1982, the Agency requested staff to locate an area where the "Western Redbud" is currently growing and to obtain pictures of this type of tree, if feasible. DISCUSSION: The Western Redbud is being used as a street tree in the City of Anaheim within the center median of Ball Road just westerly of Disneyland. This tree is presently in its leafy state and, consequently, no pictures of its flowering or bare status are available at this time. Available for the Agency's review and attached to this report are four color Polaroid pictures of the trees along Ball Road., Also attached is a copy of the leaf structure of the tree. As previously indicated, it is proposed to remove the pine trees on both sides of E1Camino Real between Newport Avenue and E1Camino Way and replace them with the Western Redbud for accent color. It is further proposed to remove five Ficus trees at the north end of E1 Camino Real just southerly of First Street and replace them with approximately fourteen Western Redbud trees on both sides of the street for accent color.
