SELECTION OF STREET TREE FOR EL CAMINO REAL
RECOMMENDATION:
That the Tustin Community Redevelopment Agency authorize the planting of the
Western Redbud tree at the northerly and southerly ends of E1Camino Real as
designed by the consultant landscape architect.
BACKGROUND:
At their meeting of July 6, 1982, the Agency requested staff to locate an area
where the "Western Redbud" is currently growing and to obtain pictures of this
type of tree, if feasible.
DISCUSSION:
The Western Redbud is being used as a street tree in the City of Anaheim within
the center median of Ball Road just westerly of Disneyland. This tree is
presently in its leafy state and, consequently, no pictures of its flowering or
bare status are available at this time.
Available for the Agency's review and attached to this report are four color
Polaroid pictures of the trees along Ball Road., Also attached is a copy of the
leaf structure of the tree.
As previously indicated, it is proposed to remove the pine trees on both sides of
E1Camino Real between Newport Avenue and E1Camino Way and replace them with the
Western Redbud for accent color. It is further proposed to remove five Ficus
trees at the north end of E1 Camino Real just southerly of First Street and
replace them with approximately fourteen Western Redbud trees on both sides of the
street for accent color.
