Bill Huston, City Manager
C. R. Thayer, Chief of Police
Authorization to Solicit Bids, Police Department Computer
Equipment
Recommendation:
That Council authorize the Police Department to solicit bids for
computer equipment as is included in Fiscal Year '82-'83 Budget,
Revenue Sharing.
Background:
In Fiscal Year '82-'83 Budget, Council authorized the purchase of
the necessary computer equipment to fully implement the police
software programs and expand word processing capabilities
throughout the Police Department at minimal cost. The word
processing package will also allow for word processing at other
City locations at significant savings over the purchase of
additional freestanding Micom units which are currently in use.
Bids will be requested for two word processing/data entry computer
terminals, two letter quality printers, one data entry terminal,
and word processing software.
Purchase and implementation of this equipment will enable the
department to utilize the capabilities of our available electronic
data processing systems to the extent that they were designed.
This will result in a stabilization of personnel costs necessary
to maintain the same service levels in the future.
Authorized expenditure and estimated cost of this equipment is
$29,800.
