NEW BUSINESS NO. 2
Inter-Corn
TO:
FROM:
SUBJECT:
Honorable Chairman & Planning Agency Members
Community Development Department
General Plan Amendment Request
Dr. George Watson, owner of the eight-unit apartment complex at 18112-
18138 Main Street has requested an opinion regarding the feasibility of
changing the use of his property from residential to commercial. At
present, the property is zoned R-4 with a general plan designation of
multi-family residential. The properties to the north, west and south of
this location are all zoned different commercial designations (corners of
Newport & Main).
Staff is of the opinion that the entire southeasterly corner of Newport and
Main should be studied for the feasibility of other properties being
included in a general plan change, if the Agency approves the concept. The
other properties would include: 1) World Gas Station; 2) old library site;
and 3) possibly other properties in that immediate vicinity. All of the
above properties are presently general planned multi-family residential and
some have commercial zonings because they were pre-zoned prior to
annexation.
RECOI~NDED ACTION
Direct staff to study the properties as described above and schedule a
general plan amendment for a future date.
