BENCHES 11-01-82OCTOBER Inter-Corn TO: FROH: SUBJECT: WILLIAM HUSTON, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR TUSTIN COMMUNITY REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY BOB LEDENDECKER, DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC WORKS/CITY ENGINEER EL CAMINO REAL/MAIN ST. DECORATIVE BENCHES RECOMMENDATION: That the Tustin Community Redevelopment Agency, at their meeting of November 1, 1982, deny the request of Mrs. Boosey to delete the decorative bench from the proposed location at 460 E1Camino Real.. BACKGROUND: During the conceptual design phase of the subject project, the Agency members and residents/businesspersons along E1Camino Real/Main St. reviewed the proposed design plans for the project. At that time, the concept of additional benches and their locations were approved by the Agency and agreed upon by the community members. DISCUSSION: Staff has received a telephone call from Mrs. Boosey, 460 E1Camino Real, regarding her concern about the location of the decorative bench that is proposed in front of her residence. The proposed bench location is shown in yellow on the attached sketch. Also shown is the existing tree and landscaped area {green) the location of a proposed decorative trash receptacle (red), and other bench locations and landscaped areas adjacent to Mrs. Boosey's residence. Mrs. Boosey has indicated that this bench may attract people who may loiter in the area and possibly cause a security problem to the residence and requests that the bench be deleted from that location. The bench installations include a concrete footing with anchor bolts to secure the benches in place and reduce the potential of theft. As of this date, the footings for this particular bench location have been installed. This particular area is the location where the parkway was recently widened to a width of 16 feet to save four existing large trees. Staff does not feel that this bench will induce loitering or present a security problem to Mrs. Boosey's residence. ~DENDECKER DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC WORKS/ CITY ENGINEER db 2~
