BACKGROUND: Recently, the Finance Department area was remodeled to house both the billing personnel within the Water Service and the additional computer equipment within the department, At the time these building modifications were made, the air conditioning system was not modified to accomodate the computer equipment which is now located within an isolated room. DISCUSSION: The computer equipment generates a great amount of heat and is required to be kept at a temperature range of 72° to 76° Fahrenheit. In order to maintain this temperature range, the cooling units for the remaining Finance and Personnel areas are required to operate at an extremely low temperature range in that they are all tied together as one unit. This results in an extremely cold working environment for the employees. In order to ensure the required temperature range for the computer equipment and a good working environment for the employees, it is suggested that a separate air conditioning unit be installed for only the computer room, which would allow the existing system to be utilized for the general working environment of the Finance and Personnel areas. Staff has solicited a proposal from the firm of Louie Schmetzer Co. of Tustin for the installation of one Carrier 2-ton rooftop air conditioning unit, one electrical circuit from electrical panel to unit, and all required air diffusers, return air grilles, ducting, and thermostats. The estimated cost for this installation is $3,900.00. BOB LEDENDECKER DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC WORKS/ CITY'ENGINEER db
