HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC MINUTES 1953 09 14 MINUTES OF A MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF TUSTIN, CALIFORNIA, HELD ON MONDAY EVENING, SEPTEMBER 14, 1953, AT 7:35 P. M., AT THE CITY HALL COUNCILMEN PRESENT: Vincent L. Humeston, Jerome C. Kidd, W. L. Tadlock and Arthur O. Park. COUNCILMEN ABSENT: Frank E. Bacon, Jr. CITY ATTORNEY: C. Arthur Nisson, Jr., was present. Mayor Humeston called the meeting to orderat 7:35 P- M. Minutes of the meetings of August 10th and August 31st were read and approved with the exception of Paragraph 5 of the Minutes of August 31st in which the City Attorney made certain changes relative to the Council's objection to the City Clerk's use of City stationery in communicat- ing with U. S. Postmaster General Summerfield in regard to the local Postoffice. Correspondence was presented including a letter from the U.S. Marine Corps Headquarters, El Toro, Calif., express- ing the desire of the Commanding Officer to make any nec- essary corrections in the flying practices of pilots based at that Air Field in the vicinity of Tustin. Mayor Humeston was designated to answer this letter. A letter from Ray DeVos, of the P. X. Barbecue, 505 W. First St., was presented, in which Mr. DeVos states that the present curb at the above property is too high and is dangerous to his customers cars. He requests that the City look into the matter end take it up with the State High- way Department for possible correction. Upon motion of Councilman Park, seconded by Councilman Tadlock and car- ried, the above letter was ordered referred to City En- gineer McBride. Mayor Humeston submitted a brief resume of the present Tustin SewerTrunk Line situation and the subject was discussed at length by the Council. SCHOOL Mr. Hugh McCullough, representing the Winko-Matic Sig- "CAUTION" nal Co., of Lorain, Ohio, was present and demonstrated SIGN a "Caution Sign" designed for school zones, priced at DEMONSTRATED $150.00 each. On motion of Councilman Park, seconded by TO CITY Councilmen Kidd and duly carried, Mayor Humeston was re- COUNCIL quested to appoint someone to consult with the Chairman of the Elementary School Board, or with Mr. Nelson, in regard to the matter and to report back at the next meeting of the Council. Mayor Humeston appointed Coun- cilman Kidd to make this contact with the School Au- thorities.I Councilman Park stated that a representative of the Tustin Drug Store has requested a green parking space on the North side of Main Street, East of "D" Street. Upon motion of Councilman Park, seconded by Councilman Kind and duly carried, it was agreed to designate a 20-Minute Green Parking Space and that a Resolution to that effect be prepared by the City Attorney. Councilman Park mentioned the fact that water accumulates at the intersection of "B" and Sixth Streets and that the County should do something about providing drainage for the water down South "B" Street. City Engineer McBride is to be instructed by Councilman Park to make repairs to approaches on the East and West side of "B" Street, North of Sixth Street, where slippage has occured in the new paving, on motion of Councilman Tadlock, seconded by Councilman Park and duly carried. KIDD Upon motion of Counciiman Park, seconded by Councilman APPOINTED Tadlock and carried, Councilman Jerome C. Kidd was appoint- TO ed a member of the Tustin Planning Commission to replace PLANNING Max E. Sagraves resigned. COMMISSION Resolution No. 347 entitled "A Resolution of the City of Tustin Fixing and Determining the Number of Cents on Each One hundred Dollars ($100.00) of the Assessed Valuation of the Taxable Property Within the City of Tustin to be Levied and Collected as a Revenue to Pay the General Running Ex- penses of Said City During the Fiscal Year 1953-54," was presented and read by title only upon motion of Councilman Kidd, seconded by Councilman Park and carried. RESOLUTION Upon motion of Councilman Park, seconded by Councilman NO. 347 Tadlock and duly carried, Resolution No. 7 was adopted.
