SUBJECT: C.A.T.V. UTILITY BOXES
RECOMMENDATION:
I~at the Tustin City Council confirm the following with respect to the above
ground vaults associated with the proposed underground C.A.T.V. facilities:
Require CommuniCom to contact each affected property owner and explain
what will be installed and why the need for it. Also, require CommuniCom
to obtain a signed statement from the affected residents that they have
been notified of same and that they do or do not object to the proposed
locations.
b. In the event the residents object to same, require the vault be located
on private property where it can be visually obscured by landscaping.
BACKGROUND:
CommuniCom Inc. presently holds, a non-exclusive franchise with the City to provide
cable television to the-community. They are ready to commence with the
underground portion of their work al most immediately.
DISCUSSION:
As a part of their underground work, it is required that three types of facilities
be placed above ground. These facilities are described with their size and the
number required as follows:
FACILITY
Line Extender
Amplifier
Power Source
NUMBER
SIZE OF CABINET REQUIRED
30" H x 23" W x 10 1/2" D 97
30" H x 23" W x 10 1/2" D Z ~ ~- ll
48" H x 14" W x 15" D 2
Pictures of each of these facilities are attached for your information.
CommuniCom proposes to locate qhese facilities within the parkway between the curb
and front edge of the sidewalk and they will be a light green color similar to the
Telephone Company facilities located above ground. Whenever possible, these
vaults will be located as close to the common property line between two parcels as
feasible.
It is anticipated that many of the property owners will have a concern with these
above ground facilities being located in front of their residences. As a partial
solution to these concerns, the following is suggested:
