HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC MINUTES 1953 05 18 MINUTES OF A MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF TUSTIN, CALIFORNIA, HELD ON MONDAY EVENING, MAY 18, 1953, AT 7:30 P. M., AT THE CITY HALL COUNCILMEN PRESENT: Vincent L. Humeston, Arthur O. Park, Wint- for L. Tadlock, Frank E. Bacon, Jr., and Jerome C. Kidd. COUNCILMEN ABSENT: None CITY ATTORNEY: C. Arthur Nisson, Jr., was present. Mayor Humeston called the meeting to order at 7:30 P. M. Minutes of the regular meeting of May 4th and of a regu- lar adjourned meeting of May 7 were read and approved after an addition was made to Paragraph7 of the meeting of May 4 in which it is now stated that "M. E. Conley was appointed an Alternate Member of the Tustin Planning Com- mission in the event of a refusal to serve of either of the newly appointed members Quincy L. Hardy and Charles H. Gallion. CENSUS Mayor Humeston presented a letter from the Bureau of the COMPLETED Census which states that as a result of t he official census as of April 20, 1953, the City of Tustin now has a popu- lation of 1,368. A letter from the Pacific Telephone & Telegraph Co. was presented inviting members of the City's personell to a luncheon and tour of their central office building at 5th & Bush Streets, Santa Ana, at a date to be announced later. Councilman Tadlock stated that he had discussed with Au- ditors Hanson & Peterson the matter of Semi-Annual in- stead of Quarterly Audits of the City's finances which he stated would result in a saving to the City of approx- imately $75.00 per year. Councilman Park suggested that a definite figure be obtained in the near future. Councilman Tadlock informed the Council that he had re- checked the equipment on the Gentry premises and that there is no particular cause for complaint in regard to additional equipment at this time. Police Chief Johansen stated that the meeting of Police Chiefs that he recently attended at San Jose was in his opinion very instructive and well worth while. City Attorney Nisson and Council Members discussed a phamplet regarding Senate Bill 1100 relative to proposed changes in the distribution of fines and fees collected by Municipal Courts of Orange County. Council instructed City Attorney Nisson to follow up in this matter and to report at a later meeting. Councilman Tadlock mentioned the lack of water pressure within the City at certain hours. Councilman Park stated that he would request Mr. Walter Rawlings, Manager of the Tustin Water Works, to appear at a later Council Meeting and inform the members as to the true situation. CHANGE IN A change in the time of Council meetings from the First TIME OF and Third Monday evenings of each month to the Second COUNCIL and Fourth Monday evenings of each month was suggested MEETINGS by Councilman Tadlock and concurred with by Councilmem- bers. Attorney Nisson was requested to present a Resolu- tion to that effect at the next Countil Meeting. FLASHLIGHT Councilman Bacon again brought up the matter of a Flash- AND CAPS light for the Fire Department Pickup Truck. Council au- FOR FIRE thorized the purchase of a Flashlight to be carried in DEPT the Pickup. A set of new caps for Fire Department Mem- bers was also authorized to be purchased. Councilman Bacon stated that Fire Chief Lindsay has re- quested that the fire alarm button be removed from the outside of the Fire Hall to the inside of the building when an electrician is again available. Also that a map of the City be made available showing the locations of all the Fire Plugs within the City. BILLS The following bills were presented, approved and ordered paid on motion of Councilman Tadlock, seconded by Coun- cilman Park and duly carried. Howard E.
