Replacement of Damaged Police Unit (Motorcycle)
File #516
RECOMMENDATION:
That the Tu~tin City Council, at their meeting of October 17, 1983
authorize an appropriation from the Equipment/Vehicle fund in the
amount of $5,330.00 for the replacement of a Police Department
motorcycle.
BACKGROUND:
Recently, Police Unit #3445 (Kawasaki Motorcycle) was damaged in a
traffic accident. Damages to the motorcycle were extensive and the
routine procedures have been initiated for collecting damages from the
party causing the accident.
DISCUSSION:
The damage repair estimates for this unit were as follows:
Straighten frame and repair engine head
Replace frame and engine head
Replace frame and engine head
$3,038.38
3,747.58
4,644.34
It is assumed that the recovery amount on this accident will be
$3,747.58.
Due to the extensive damages'to the unit, it is suggested that the
motorcycle be replaced with a new unit. This particular unit was
scheduled to be replaced on the routine rotation schedule next fiscal
year '84-'85.
The City has just recently replaced three motorcycle units. It is
most probable that we could purchase this unit at the original bid
price of $6,330.00. With the amount to be recovered from the
accident, the net cost to the City will be $1,582.00 .
