On Pomegranate Road at Morning Glory Road and at Cherrywood Lane. Background: Staff received a letter from the Laurelwood Homeowners Associaton regarding evening rush hour traffic detouring through Laurelwood development. The Homeowners Association has requested the installation of stop signs on Elder Lane at Raintree Rd. and at Morning Glory Rd., and on Pomegranate Road at Morning Glory Rd. and at Cherrywood Lane. Discussion: These vehicles which are allegedly detouring through the Laurelwood development are turning right on Raintree Rd. from westbound Walnut Ave., then left onto Elder Lane, then left onto Morning Glory Rd., then right onto Pomegranate Rd., and left onto Cherrywood Lane to Walnut Avenue. On August 31, 1983 staff recorded the following traffic counts as noted on each street: LOCATION Elder Lane Westerly of Raintree Lane TRAFFIC TIME NUMBER DIRECTION OF DAY OF VEHICLES Westbound 3-4:00 PM 2 4-5:00 PM 21 5-6:00 PM 14 6-7:00 PM 11 September 26, 1983 William Huston, City Manager Placement of Stop Signs at Certain Intersections Page 2 LOCATION TRAFFIC TIME DIRECTION OF DAY NUMBER OF VEHICLES Pomegranate Rd. Easterly of Cherrywood Lane Westbound 3-4:00 PM 20 4-5:00 PM 49 5-6:00 PM 24 6-7:00 PM 36 These volumes do not indicate a significant problem with respect to rush hour traffic. The request for Stop signs is a valid one, and it may help control the local residential traffic as well as any Walnut Ave. commuter traffic that may utilize these streets. The installation of a traffic signal at Walnut Ave. and Cherrywood Lane would virtually eliminate the detouring of traffic through the residential areas. A traffic signal would help eliminate the long back-up of westbound traffic on Walnut Ave. caused by every vehicle being~equired to stop at the stop signs. Many vehicles could proceed through on the green phase of the signal. Attached is a Resolution which designates the placement of certain stop signs. Re stop signs designated in this Resolution are for: 1. Southeastbound Elder Lane at Raintree Road. 2. Northwestbound Elder Lane at Morning Glory Road. 3. Southeastbound Pomegranate Rd. at Morning Glory Road. 4. Northwestbound Pomegranate Rd. at Cherrywood Lane. These locations are also shown on the attached drawing.
