FEDERAL AID URBAN PROJECTS, 1983-84 THROUGH 1987-88
Recommendation:
That the Tustin City Council at their'meeting of September lg, lg83 approve the
submission of the Newport Avenue traffic signal interconnect and modification
project for the 1983-84 through lg87-88 Federal A~d Urban (F.A.U.) Program and
direct staff'to submit this project to the-Orange County Transportation Commission
(O.C.T.C.) for inclusion in the program.
Background:
The O.C.T.C. is soliciting applications for the 1983-84 through 198~-88 F.A.U.
Program. It has been indicated that there are limited funds available for the
upcoming program, but staff feels that this project is a viable one due to it
being a continuation of a previous signal interconnect and modification project
which was also funded by F.A.U. monies.
Discussion:
The attached application/project statement provides for the installation of a
traffic signal interconnect system and modifications to the signal installations
at Newport Avenue and the I-5 Freeway, Mitchell Avenue, McFadden Avenue, Walnut
Avenue, and Sycamore Avenue with striping and channelization as required.
This project was submitted several years ago as the Newport Ave. interconnect
between Irvine Blvd. and Sycamore Ave. Due to a shortage of F.A.U. funding at
that time, the project was reduced to between the limits of Irvine Blvd. and
Laguna Rd. This proposed project would now complete the original project.
If the project is approved by the O.C.T.C., the following is a tenative schedule
and funding recap:
June, 1984 - Environmental clearance
July, 1984 to October, 1984 - Engineering design
December, 1984 to June 1985 - Construction
