Christmas Decorations
As per Council direction at the meeting of September 6th, staff researched the:
1) possibility of attaching, intersection spanning, Season Greetings/Happy
Holidays banners to traffic signal standards and/or street light poles on E1
Camino Real; 2) cost of banners; 3) possibility of decorating street light lamp
globes and/or poles; 4) cost of accessory decorations.
Attachment of Banner(s):
Mr. Rourke's office sighted vehicle code #~1464 prohibiting the attachment of
banners t° traffic signal standards; also, the actual field location of the
standards could be prohibitive.
Mr. B~rry of Edison Company stated the banners could be attached to'the street
light poles but the installation would need to be coordinated through the Edison
Company.
Cost of Banner(s):
All five sign companies having a current City Business License were contacted to
see if they could: 1) provide the desired banner(s); 2) install the banner(s);
and, 3) the cost of the banner(s). Two companies did not respond; one company
refused to quote due to the perceived liability; and, two companies responded with
cost estimates. The costs ranged from $450 each for a 60 foot banner to $820 for
a 100 foot banner with installation cost of $20 - $30 per h~ur and delivery time
from one to two weeks (one month preferred). Costs for three banners installed
would range from $2,100 - $3,000.
Accessory Decorations:
Edison Company will not permit the attachment of accessory decorations to either
the street light pole or the street light lamp globe; therefore, costs for the
decorations were not obtained.
A local company has contacted this office regarding the decorations. A
representative of this company will be in later in the week and more information
may be available for the September 19th Council meeting.
