Tree Removal - 1761 Amherst Road
RECOMMENDATION:
Removethe tree as requested and do not replace.
BACKGROUND:.
Mrs. B. J. Thomas's property backs up to Walnut Avenue. There is
butt up against curb sidewalk with a narrow strip between the sidewalk
and the property owners block wall 'landscaped with ground cover and
a Jacaranda tree. The ground cover is maintained by the Tustin Meadows
Homeowners Association, and the tree is cared for by the City. The.
concern of the property owner is damage to the block wall.
DISCUSSION:
The row of Jacaranda trees extend from Redhill Avenue east on Walnut
Avenue the length of Tustin Meadows. No doubt all of the trees will
bust up the property owners wall in time. Some are up against the
wall now.
The Council has previously authorized the removal of two of the trees,
perhaps consideration should be given to the removal of the entire row.
The expense of repairing or replacing the homeowners wall will be several
thousand dollars.
I contacted the Association board before the two previous trees were
removed and posed the question of removing all the Jacarandas along
the wall because of the confined area they were planted in and they
had no objections at that time. Most of the homeowners have large
enough trees in their back yards now to take the place of the City trees.

Dear Mr. West:
Our address is: 1761 Amherst Rd., Tustin Meadows, Tustin,
CA. The back of house is on Walnut street and there is a
Jacaranda tree growing into our fence. We are concerned
that the tree may damage the fence. For that reason we
are asking to have the tree taken out.
~hank you for your kind attention.
Very truly~yo~rs,
(Mrs. B. J. Thomas)
