HUSTON, CITY MANAGER PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT/ENGINEERING DIVISION AWARD OF CONTRACT FOR BAKER PIPELINE BLOW-OFF EXTENSION TO STORM DRAIN - JAMBOREE ROAD 1,625 + SOUTH OF PIONEER ROAD (C.LP. NO. 700077) RECOMMENDATION It is recommended that.the City Council, at their meeting of April 6, 1998, award the subject contract to B.R. Day Construction, Inc., Covina, California in the amount of $15,064.00 and authorize the Mayor and City Clerk to execute the contract documents on behalf of the City. FISCAL IMPACT Funding for this project is being provided with Reassessment District 95-1 monies and sufficient funds have been allocated in the Fiscal Year 1997-98 Capital Improvement Program Budget to cover the cost of this construction. The low bid is approximately 8.6% below the engineer's estimate of $16,500.00 BACKGROUND Bids were opened on March 17, 1998 for the subject project and six (6) bids were received as follows: B.1L Day Construction, Inc., Covina ........................................................................... $15,064.00 B.I.K dba Civil Constructors, Rosemead ................................................................... $19,915.00 Atlas-Allied, Anaheim ................................................................................................. $20,462.00 The Allison Co., Murrieta ........................................................................................... $22,542.00 Savala Construction, Irvine ......................................................................................... $34,788.60 Veme's Plumbing Co., Buena Park ............................................................................. $34,991.10 This project will provide for the connection fi.om the existing Municipal Water District of Orange County (MWDOC) 39" Baker Pipeline Blow-offAssembly to the existing storm drain in Jamboree Road. The blow- off' assembly is utilized for draining water or sediment fi.om the pipeline during routine maintenance and the proposed connection will allow the discharge to be diverted into the storm drain system. The references and the State Contractor's license of B.R. Day Construction, Inc., have been checked and verified and are appropriate for the subject project. In addition, B.R. Day Construction, Inc., has worked on a City project previously and their work was satisfactory. Tim D.
