On behalf of Orange County Veterans, we respectfully request that the city of Tustin fly the
POW/MIA flag year round. You would be joining the following cities who currently fly the flag year
round; Westminster, La Habra, Fullerton, Fountain Valley, Huntington Beach, Costa Mesa, Orange,
Lake Forest and Palcentia. Other cities have flown the POW/MIA flag only on special occasions. (You
may be one of them.)
It is displayed year round in the rotunda at the White House in Washington D.C., and at our
State Capitol in Sacramento, and will fly in all United States government buildings on special occa-
sions. On January 13, 1998, the Orange County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved the
motion to fly the POW/MIA flag at all Orange County government buildings year round.
This flag must fly year round because the prisoners of war and missing in action of all wars
must be remembered every day of the year. We must be reminded of those Veterans who are unac-
counted for. We must never forget these Americans and never allow it to happen again.
We remember the
78,751 POW/MIAs of World War Two
8,177 POW/MIA's of The Korean War
2,123 POW/MIA's of the vietnam War
Would you please include this request on the next available agenda. I will be happy to respond
to your questions or concerns you may have.
We wish to express our sincere appreciation to Mayor Jeffery M. Thomas and the City Council
of Tustin for this opportunity to bring this matter to the attention of the City of Tustin. We are grateful
for any assistance you may provide.
Respectfully Submitted,
Bob Kakuk
