BACKGROUND: The developer, Burnett-Ehline, is currently under construction of an office building on the corner of Holt Ave. and Irvine Blvd. As a condition of approval of this development, the developer was required to install street lightin9 along the Irvine Blvd., Holt Ave. and Newport Ave. frontages of the office building and Don Jose Restaurant. DISCUSSION: This street light installation will require the excavation of a trench and installation of 2 inch diameter conduit. With the long-range plans of eventually undergrounding the overhead utilities within that area, it is suggested at this time that the Redevelopment Agency enter into a cooperative project with the developer and request that he install the necessary conduit for future undergrounding of the overhead electrical and telephone facilities. Staff has received price quotes from the developer's contractor in the amount of $20,471.33. This price provides for conduit installation and sidewalk, replacement along the frontages of Irvine Blvd., Holt Ave. and Newport Ave. A logical utility underground district within this immediate area would be as shown on the attached map and described as follows: °Irvine Blvd. from Holt Ave. to the easterly side of Newport Ave. ($205,000) °Holt Ave. from Irvine Blvd. to Newport Ave. ($141,500) °Newport Ave; from 300± ft. northerly of Bryan Ave. to Wass St. ($510,000) The developers are waiting for a determination as to whether the Redevelopment Agency would be interested in participation in the project with the installation of conduit at this time. If the Agency desires to proceed at this time, a budget appropriation in the amount of $20,500 will be required. endecker Director of Public Works/City Engineer db ~ttachment J 1274Z- 7O
