Citizen Request for Tree Removal
Recommendation:
I recommend that the tree be removed as requestd by Mrs. Paul Grind
of 1611 Amherst Rd., and no replacement tree be planted.
Background:
Mrs. Paul Grinde requests the City to remove the Jacaranda tree
at the rear of her property (Walnut Avenue between the side walk
and the homeowners block wall.)
Discussion:
Mrs. Grinde states that the tree has raised the sidewalk and she
is concerned that it will also damage her block wall and the cement
patio in the back yard.
The space between the sidewalk and the block wall for the tree to
grow is quite small (42 ".) If the tree is left, it will probably
damage the wall in time. To plant another tree in the same location
seems counter productive as it too would probably have to be removed
for the same reasons.
Mrs. Grinde has two good sized trees in her back yard and probabl~y
feels the tree is not needed that badly. Notification was sent to
the neighbors. One letter was received from Mr. Charles F. Krouse
of 1651 Amherst, stating that he appreciated Mrs. Grinde's concern
for the possible damage to her property, and recognized also the good
the trees were doing in furnishing shade, cutting noise and dust down
and adding asthetics to the area. He objected to the removal.

while I appreciate the recent problem experienced
by ~s. Grinde and understand her concerns about future possibilities,
the proposed solution is undesirable. The trees contribute to the
deadening of the noise on Walnut Avenue, they help our atmosphere,
they slow the flow of dust during the.dry periods, they provide
. cooling shade and they 'add to the general aesthetics of the area.
