RECOMMENDATION
Appropriate $3,705 from the unappropriated reserves of the Revenue Sharing Fund for
the Purchase of a replacement satellite dry copying machine.
BACKGROUND
The City currently has two small satellite copiers at either end of the building
that provide day-to-day'service for the low production irmnediate needs of all de-
partments. The Savin 790 which is presently located in the Engineering/Planning
area is four years old and has made approximately 336,000 copies, an average of
7,000 per month. It appears to be on its last legs and is down more often than
operational,-especia~ly during the past three weeks. The annual maintenance agree-
ment cost for the past year was $955.
Because of the excessive amount of down time and the increasing annual maintenance
cost, it is becoming les:s and less beneficial to continue to support the maintenance
of the Savin 790.
Attached is a cost comparison of several copier options. I would recommend the
purchase of the Gestetnelr 20Q8RE for the quoted price of $3,495 plus tax. The
market place appears to be very competitive at this time and it would be in our
best interest to take advantage of this cost savings for a machine of this quality
while it is still available.
We will recover approximately $240 from Savin by pro-rating the balance of the cur-
rent maintenance agreement.
