HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC MINUTES 1951 11 19 MINUTES OF A MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF TUSTIN, CALIFORNIA, HELD ON MONDAY EVENING, NOVEMBER 19, 1951, AT 7:30 P. M., AT THE CITY HALL COUNCILMEN PRESENT: Vincent L. Humeston, Frank E. Bacon, Jr., William H. Gray and William I. Miller. COUNCILMEN ABSENT: J. Roy Teter CITY ATTORNEY C. Arthur Nisson, Jr., was present. Mayor Humeston called the meeting to order at 7:30 P. M. Mayor Humeston presented correspondence including a letter from the Orange County League of Cities rela- tive to their regular monthly dinner meeting to be held in Huntington Beach on November 29th at the City Auditorium. A letter from the State Compensation In- surance Fund regarding the compensation claim of Thomas McMullen which stated that a hearing was sched- uled to be held relative to the claim in the Court House at Santa Ana on December 7, 1951, was read by the Clerk. Holiday greetings to the Marine Corps from Mayor Humeston and the Council as requested by and forwarded to the magazine entitled Tel-N-It To The Marines" was also read to the Council by the Clerk. SEGOVIA MayorHumeston brought up the matter of vacation pay GRANTED for Benjamin N. Segovis, formerly employed for nine VACATION months in the Street Department. Council decided that PAY he should be paid for 9/12 of two weeks or 9 days, as vacation pay. RESOLUTION City Attorney Nisson was requested to prepare Resolu- N0. 299 tion No. 299 covering employee vacations and sick ADOPTED leave. On motion of Councilman Miller, seconded by Councilman Bacon and duly carried, Resolution No. 299 was adopted. Ordinance No. 83 entitled "An Ordinance of the City of Tustin Restricting the Use of Certain Streets" was presented by City Attorney Nisson and on motion of Councilman Miller, seconded by Councilman Gray and carried, was read by title only. ORDINANCE Councilman Miller moved that Ordinance No. 83 be NO. 83 passed after the second reading and adopted. Sec- ADOPTED onded by Councilman Bacon the motion duly carried. The need of a suitable map for the purpose of check- ing the recording and assessment rolls was brought up by Councilman Gray and the Clerk was authorized to purchase same. Council reaffirmed their policy of the past that each Commissioner has the authority to hire or re- place any temporary employee in his own department. Councilman Miller stated that he would contact City Engineer McBride in regard to the drainage problem at 6th and "B" Streets. Councilman Miller also mentioned the matter of Hardy & Harper's bid to repair City streets at Second and Prospect Streets for $75.00, and at Second Street near "D" Street for $36.00. No action was taken at this time. The need of a Street Superintendent's Control Map suitable for designating Stop Signs, Culverts, Fire Hydrants, etc., was mentioned by Councilman Miller. Council agread that such a map should be obtained. DOG TAX The possibility of a City. Dog Tax was discussed. DISCUSSED Councilman Miller suggested that the matter be ap- proached on a contract basis with Mr. Pickering, Santa Ana Poundmaster. The subject was referred to Councilman Bacon with a suggestion that Mr. Pick- ering be requested to attend the next meeting of the Council The City Clerk was instructed to write to the Los Angeles Stamp & Stationery Co. for a price on 150 Dog Tags. BILLS The following bills were presented, approved and or- dered paid on motion of Councilman Miller, seconded by Councilman Gray and duly carried. Tustin Hardware Co. $ 4.04 Harry's Mobilgas 1.27 Office of Civil Defense 2.32 George A. Broomell 22.00 Burton's Service .75 A. O.
