HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC MINUTES 1951 10 01 298 MINUTES OF A MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF TUSTIN, CALIFORNIA, HELD ON MONDAY EVENING, OCTOBER 1, 1951, AT 8:30 P. M., AT THE CITY HALL COUNCILMEN PRESENT: Vincent L. Humeston, William I. Miller, J. Roy Teter, Frank E. Bacon, Jr., and William H. Gray. COUNCILMEN ABSENT: None CITY ATTORNEY: C. Arthur Nisson, Jr., was present. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Humeston at 8:30 P. M., immediately after adjournment of the meet- ing of the Tustin Planning Commission. Minutes oft he previous meeting were read and approved. Mayor Humeston presented correspondence that included a letter from Governor Earl Warren relative to the State Defense Mobilization Committee which was read to the Council by City Attorney NisSon. Also a letter from the League of California Cities relative to a meeting to b~e held in ,Oakland in the near future. O. V. DART City Attorney Nisson reported that Mr. O. V. Dart had VARIANCE filed an Application for Variance in regard to his APPLICATION property at 650 W. First Street, which application FILED will be considered at a meeting of the *Planning Com- mission on October 15th at 7:30 P. M. Alao~a letter has been received from Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Matron, of 690 W. First Street, protesting the conditions exist- ing on Mr. Dart's lot. Attorney Nisson presented the draft of an Ordinance relating to load limits on certain City streets. After discussion Councilman Teter moved to table the matter for the present andtoinstruct the Police Department to distribute courtesy cards to offending truck drivers. Seconded by Councilman Miller the mo- tion duly carried. Councilman Gray stated that the date set for the meet- ing with the Board of Supervisors relative to the Court Reorganization was October 10th and explained to the Council that an Amendment is required to take Tustin and Orange out of the Municipal Court Setup, in order that the Supervisors would have the right to designate the areas to retain Justice Courts. Council- man Gray read a petition to be presented to the Board of Supervisors in regard to this matter and requested the signatures of the members of the Council. On motion of Councilman Miller, seconded by Council- man Gray and duly carried, City Attorney Nisson was instructed to prepare a Resolution regarding Stop Signs to bel placed at Main and Myrtle Streets, Main and Pasadena Streets and at Pacific and Sixth Streets. RAE M. HUNTSMAN Councilman Gray moved that Attorney Nisson prepare a APPOINTED ACTING Resolution appointing Rae M. Huntsman Acting Police POLICE CHIEF Chief and Assistant Street Superintendent and to con- tinue to act in that capacity at the discretion of the Council. Councilman Bacon seconded the motion which was duly carried. AUXILIARY POLICE On motion of Councilman Gray, seconded by Councilman TRAINING PROGRAM Bacon and duly carried it was agreed that Acting Chief of Police Huntsman inaugurate an Auxiliary Po- lice Training Program whereby selected local citizens 299 can be trained for Civil Defense and Emergency Police Work. BILLS The following bills were presented, approved and ordered paid on motion of Councilman Bacon, seconded by Councilman Teter and carried. Tustin Fire Department $39.00 The Tustin News 20.26 Herbemit L. Miller, Inc. 19.61 Orange County Insurance Agency 30.20 Tustin Florists 20.60 Munselle Supply Co. 7.88 Utilities (City Hall & Fire Hall) 44.25 TOTAL $181.80 The meeting was adjourned on motion of Councilman Miller, seconded by Councilman Teter and carried.
