White, Director of Coninunity Services TILLER DAYS STREET FAIRE REQUEST RECOMMENDATION: Pleasure of the Council; Mrs. Webb will attend the Council Meeting to present her report and to answer any questions Council may have. BACKGROUND: As Council is aware, the 1982 Tiller Days was an enormous success. Community' spirit and participation were at an all-time high; many volunteers contributed to this effort. The Committee is asking for~ $6,000, the same amount as last year. Mrs. Webb's report is attached for your review. RAW:ls Attachment TO: Tustin City Council I was extremely happy wi'th Tustin Tiller Days this year. I felt we generated a lot of enthusiasm in the community. It has taken four years, but I feel we have finally made a good contribution. Last year the Council made some comments about possibly not having the Street Faire in 1983. We need to know what the feelings of the City Council are. Last year we tried a couple of ideas to generate n~re income and they did not work. We had drawings with some Major Prizes and netted only about $200.00. We, as a committee had a game booth, which netted approximately $300.00. This is not enough to offset the expenses. (See Budget Report.) We have checked with Silverado Days and found they start with a budget of $30,000.00 for a four-day festival. They made about $45,000.00, but $25,000.00 of that was made on the Carnival Rides. If we want to make money or come out even, we will also have to bring the Carnival Rides back to Tustin. I don't feel that we should have the rides. I like the feeling of the small town Street Faire; and from the reports we received, the community does too. The community gave us very positive comments about the help we received from the Marines and the Police department. They did a tremendous job and all of them volunteered for the three days of the festival. To show our appreciation for their help we had Food Voucher-s. (See expenses.) We purchased food.and drinks for the · committee, Marines, Police, and many of the workers who volunteered their time at .Tiller Days. It took from our profit, but it would have cost us a lot more to hire these people. I feel it was well worth it. It is my feeling that we should rent the night lighting instead of purchasing it. If we grow the way I hope, we will have to consider a different location for next years Street Faire.
