VENDOR SURVEY REGARDING RECENT BID FOR STENCIL TRUCK
At the City Council meeting of January 3, 1983, Councilman Grienke expressed
concern with the fact that only one bid was submitted for the purchase of the
paint/stencil truck. Because of this concern, Council directed staff to survey
those non-responding agencies from the bid list and determine the reasons for the
lack of response.
The following indicates the name of agency, the person contacted, and a recap of
the information obtained:
CORWIN FORD - Hector Oliva$
Mr. Olvivas claimed they had not received the bid, but would welcome any
opportunity to bid on City vehicles/equipment in the future.
GUARANTY CHEVROLET - Richard Burnett
Mr. Burnett gave the following reasons for not responding:
1. The equipment was too specializd
2. They do not have stock of that size and felt they could not obtain it in
a reasonable period of time
3. It was too much work for an agency of their size
4. The particular time of year
5. They were in the process of working on a 111 vehicle bid for the County
6. They did not want the liability in case of error
HYDRAULIC SPECIALIST OF MONTEREY - Tony Cellicino
They were too far removed from our area to submit a competitive bid.
M & L TRUCK BODY
The agency was called six (6) times and the persons (Shirley or Les} were not
available. A message was left each time for a return call, but none was
received.
REDWOOD EQUIPMENT CO. - Jim Dorsett
They were too far removed from our area and have an affiliation with
Whittaker Corporation.
SANTA ANA DODGE - Clyde Sauver
Mr. Sauver did not respond for the following reasons:
1. The equipment was too specialized
2. They do not manufacture trucks that large
3. They did not want to be responsible for the quotations and workmanship of
other agencies.

SELMAN CHEVROLET - Howard Goodwin
Mr. Goodwin said he was on vacation at the time and that it was an oversight
on the part of the agency. Mr. Goodwin also stated he would like the
opportunity to bid on City Equipment in the future.
THEODORE ROBINS FORD - Jim Buie
The bid was lost within the organization and not found until after the
closing date. Mr. Buie would like the opportunity to bid in the future.
VILLA FORD - Frank Travis
Mr. Travis stated the agency's policy was to not bid on equipment this
specialized as they are at the mercy of other vendors and unable to guarantee
the quality of work and availability of supply.
Given this information, staff requests Council's direction as to the desired
course of action.
