HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC 6 COUNCIL EXP ACCT 01-03-83DATE: December 29, 1982 1-3-83 Inter-Com CONSENT CALENDAR NO. 6 TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL FROM: CITY MANAGER SUBJECT: COUNCILMEMBER MONTHLY EXPENSE ACCOUNTS Recor~nendation: That the City Council adopt the attached resolution establishing Councilmember monthly expense accounts. Discussion: In reviewing the City's various expense accounts, staff determined that it would be appropriate to adjust the monthly expense account for Councilmembers. The expense account, which covers the costs incurred by Councilmembers in the per- formance of their official duties, was last adjusted in March, 1981. WAH/es RESOLUTION NO. 82-93 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TUSTIN, CALIFORNIA, ESTABLISHING COUNCILMEMBER MONTHLY EXPENSE ACCOUNTS. 4 WHEREAS, each Councilmember experiences monthly costs for transpor- 5 ration, meals, telephone, and other miscellaneous expenditures directly rela- ted to the performance of their public duties; and WHEREAS, Councilmember monthly expense allowances have not increased 7 since March 2, 1981, approximately twenty-two (22) months; and 8 WHEREAS, during that twenty-two month time-period the Consumer Price Index has risen, Tustin's population has increased, and the City's area has 9 expanded, thereby creating larger demands upon a Councilmemher's financial resources, 10 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of 11 Tustin, California, does hereby determine that each member of the City Council is expending in excess of Two Hundred and Twenty-Five Dollars per month for 12 expenses related to the performance of their elected official duties; and 13 BE IT FURTHER ~ESOLVED, that in lieu of filing individual expense claims for reimbursements from petty cash, the Mayor is authorized payment of 14 a fixed sum of Two Hundred Twenty-Five Dollars ($225) per month, and each Co~ncilme~ber is authorized payment of a fixed s%~n of One Hundred Seventy-Five 15 Dollars ($175.00) per month; and 16 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the provisions contained in this Reso- lution shall be effective as of January 1, 1983, and after each Councilmen%her 17 files with the Finance Department an appropriate statement affirming said expenses and requesting such reimbursement. 18 PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the City Coun- 19 cil of the City of Tustin, California, held on the 3rd day of January, 1983. 20 21 22 23 ATTEST: RICHARD B.
