HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC MINUTES 1949 11 07196 MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TUSTIN, HELD IN THE CITY HALL OF TUSTIN, ON MONDAY EVENING, NOVEMBER 7, 1949, AT 9:45 P.M. PRESENT WERE: COUNCILMEN HUMESTON, MILLER, BACON, GRAY, AND CHARLTON. ABSENT WERE; NONE CITY ATTORNEY: C. ARTHUR NISSON JR. WAS PRESENT. Mayor Humeston called the meeting to order at 9.45 P. M., immediately after the meettng of the Tustin Plan- ning Commission. On motion of Councilman Charleton seconded by Council- man Gray and duly carried, the reading of the minutes of the last meeting, October 17, was omitted to be read at the next meeting on November 1st. City Engineer McBride reported on the completion of re- pairs to Main Street. from Prospect Avenue to Pacific Street, as of June 25, 1949, in a satisfactory manner at a cost to the city of $417.41. Resolution No. 237entitled "Finding that the improve- ment of Main Street completed and approving the report of the City Engineer" was presented by City Attorney Nisson and on motion of Councilman Charleton, seconded by Councilman Miller and duly carried was, read by title only. RESOLUTION Resolution No. 237 was then adopted on motion of Council- NO. 237 man Miller, seconded by Councilman Gray and duly carried. ADOPTED City Engineer McBride stated that he had received a tele- phone call from the State Highway Engineer's Office in MCBRIDE Los Angeles to the effect that their Sacramento office REPORTS ON had accepted the City of Tustin's offer of $2,000 to- TRAFFIC ward the cost of installing traffic signals at Main SIGNALS AT and D Streets. Mr. McBride further stated that in order MAIN & D STS to facilitate the matter he had signed Project State- ment No. 2 relative to the citys agreeing to appropriate $2,000 from the California Highway Users Tax Fund as the city's contribution toward installation expense and requested the Council approval of his action. On motion of Councilman Miller, seconded by Councilman Charleton and duly carried. Mr. McBride's action in signing Project Statement No. 2 was approved. On motion of Councilman Charletoh, seconded by Council- man Miller and carried. Councilman Gray was appointed to make the necessary arrangements for the installation of Storage Closets in the dressing room of the new Fire Hall. FIRE CHIEF Mayor Humeston read a letter of resignatiom from Fire KIDD Chief.Jerome Kidd dated November 7, 1949. On motion RESIGNS of Councilman Miller, seconded by Councilman Bacon, his resignation was accepted with regrets. Motion carried. GROUP Councilman Miller moved that a Group Insurance Policy INSURANCE covering the members of the Tustin Volunteer Fire De- FOR FIRE partment be approved and it was seconded by Council- DEPT man Charleton and duly carried that Councilman Gray APPROVED be authorized to proceed with the Group Insurance Plan as outlined in previous Council Meetings for the mem- bers of the Fire Department. On motion of Councilman Miller, seconded by Councilman Bacon, the Fire Department was granted $50.00 for accumu- lated incidental expenses. Motion carried. Councilman Gray moved that the Council sanction the in- stallation of a 1-1/2 inch Water Service Line to the new City Hall and Fire Station instead of the 3/4 inch line as originally specified. Seconded by Councilman Charle- ton the motion carried. Councilman Bacon stated that Police Chief Thomas McMullen had arranged to enter the Community Hospital in Santa Ana on Wednesday, November 9, for an operation which would probably keep him from his duties for several weeks. The Council instructed Deputy City Clerk Penington to work out details for a Purchase Order System to embrace all city purchases and to submit details at the next Council meeting for their constderation. Penington was also instructed to submit a complete breakdown of gasoline and oil consumption of the Police Car and City Truck during the past twelve months and to submit same at the next meeting of the Council.
