HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC MINUTES 1949 09 19188 MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL, OF THE CITY OF TUSTIN, HELD IN THE CITY HALL OF TUSTIN, ON MONDAY EVENING, SEPTEMBER 19, 1949, AT 8.00 P.M. PRESENT WERE: COUNCILMEN HUMESTON, BACON, CHARLETON, GRAY AND MILLER~ .... ABSENT WERE: COUNCILMEN NONE CITY ATTORNEY C. ARTHUR NISSON JR. WAS PRESENT. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Humeston at the close of the planning Commission meeting. The minutes of the last regular meeting were approved, also the minutes of the Special Meeting of Tuesday, September 13, at 5 o,clock P. M., held in the City Hall. POSADE The first matter of business to come before the meet- APPLICA-TI.0N ing was with Attorney N. H. Snedegaard, representing FOR TAXI CAB Arnold J. Posade in requesting a Franehise for his FRANCHISE: client Mr. Posade to conduct a taxi cab business in Tustin. Attorney Smedegaard went fully into the merits of a Franchise for the Taxicab business and stated that he thought it was a protection for the City as well as the owner of the business. After a lengthly discussion Councilman Miller moved seconded by Council- man Charleton that the Council receive the Application for a Franchise for study and make a final report and decision at the next meeting. Later it was decided by the Council on motion of Councilman Gray, seconded by Councilman Bacon that a Permit be issued Mr. Posade to operate his taxicab in the City when an insurance policy covering the insurance requirements for such business be approved by the City Attorney and filed with the city. Motion carried. ROSCOE BALES Council directed, at the request of City Attorney TAXICAB Nisson, that License No. 4022 issued to Roscoe Bales LICENSE to operate a taxicab business be cancelled due to in- REVOKED sufficient insurance. Mr. Nelson, principal of the Elementary School Dis- trict, was present and stated that they had a very large school bus that they could not get into the building at the corner of C and Third Streets, which had been rented to house the bus. The matter was re- ferred to Street Superintendant McMullen with in- · structions to confer with City Engineer McBride for any alteration of the street grade or the approach to the building. BR00MELL Resolution No. 232 authorizing the employment of a NAMED Building Inspector, Plumbing Inspector and Electrical BUILDING Inspector was adopted on motion of Councilman Miller, INSPECTOR seconded by Councilman Charleton and naming George A. Broomell to the position. Motion carried. ORDINANCE Ordinance No. 77 was presented for first reading. N0. 77 This Ordinance regulates the construction, alteration and repair of buildings and structures within the City of Tustin. Ordinance No. 77 was read by title only on motion of Councilman Miller, seconded by Councilman Charleton and duly carried. Councilman Miller then moved that Ordinance No. 77 be passed for first read- ing. Councilman Charleton seconded the motion which was carried. ORDINANCE Councilman Charleton moved that Ordinance No. 78 be NO. 78 read by title only, seconded by Councilman Miller the motion carried. Councilman Charioton then moved that Ordinance No. 78 be passed for first reading. Councilman Gray seconded the motion. Motion carried. TUSTIN HILLS A letter to the Council from the Tustin Hills Citrus CITRUS Association requesting a renewal of the pledge from ASSOCIATION the Council that the Tustin Volunteer Fire Department REQUESTS would come to their aid if needed was acted on by FIRE Councilman Gray moving to instruct City Attorney PROTECTION Nisson to answer their letter assuring them of the requested assistance in the event of a fire at their plant. Councilman Charleton seconded the motion which carried. BILLS The following bills were approved by the Finance Com- mittee and were ordered paid on motion of Councilman Gray, seconded by Councilman Miller and duly carried.
