MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE
CITY COUNCIL, OF THE CITY OF
TUSTIN, HELD IN THE CITY HALL
OF TUSTIN, ON TUESDAY EVENING
JULY 5, 1949, AT 7:30 P.M.
PRESENT WERE: COUNCILMEN HUMESTON, BACON, GRAY AND CHARLETON.
ABSENT WERE: COUNCILMAN MILLER
CITY ATTORNEY C. ARTHUR NISSON WAS PRESENT.
Mayor Humeston called the meeting to order at 7:30 P. M.
Minutes of the precedeeding meeting were read and approved.
Council discussed the proposed new Electric and Plumbing
Codes. Councllman Charleton requested that further action
on the Codes be delayed to allow opportunity for further
study and until CounciIman Miller is present at the next
meeting. He also suggested the possibility of having
Building Inspector Broomell present at the next meeting.
NO GAS TAX Mayor Humeston reported that City Attorney Nisson had
REFUND informed him that it would not be possible for the City
to secure a Gas Tax Refund of gasoline used by City
equipment as suggested at a previous meeting.
Street Superintendent McMullen reported that he had
talked with Mr. Seeley, of the County Street Mainten-
ance Department, regarding the possibility of paving
Second Street, between Pasadena Street and Tustin Avenue,
and that he could not get an answer from Mr. Seeley at
this time but that he expected to get a definite answer
soon after July 1st. Superintendent McMullen also stated
that in regard to the unpaved shoulder on the East side
of Tustin Avenue, from First Street to Main Street, that
he is trying to contact Mr. Walker, State Highway Fore-
man, before contacting Mr. Davison in the matter.
Councilman Charleton reported that he had tried but had
failed to get any definite information in regard to the
possibility of Traffic Signals at First Street and Tus-
tin Avenue.
There was a discussion by the Council in regard to the
possibility of building a Grade School in the North
section of the Tustin District, to be located on Dodge
Street and Hughes Avenue. Also the possibility of an
Auditorium and other buildings to be erected on the
present Grammar School grounds in Tustin. Councilman
Gray explained that arrangements in bringing in certain
of the grades to Tustln would be worked out and sug-
gested that a Committee composed of all members of the
Council work with the School District in formulating
a plan. It was stated that if this project was com-
pleted it would necessitate the closing of Third Street
to traffic through the school grounds.
There was no protest made to the Council, sitting as
a Board of Equalization, for any adjustment of taxes
for the fiscal year 1948'1949.
INSURANCE The City Clerk reported that the City's Insurance
RENEWALS Policies would expire on July 24 next. The Council
then instructed City Attorney Nisson to receive alI
applications for Insurance Renewals. Quotations to be
submitted at the next meeting.
Mayor Humeston stated that he and Councilman Charleton
had arranged to attend the meeting of the Joint Outfall
Sewer Board Executive Meeting on Wednesday evening,
July 6, at Anaheim.
BILLS The following bills Were presented end ordered paid on
motion of Councilman Gray, seconded by Councilman Charle-
ton and duly carried.

Councilman Charleton moved to adjurn the meeting until
Wednesday July 6, 1949, at 10:00 o'clock A. M. Councll-
man Gray seconded the motion which was duly carried.
Meeting adjurned.
Meetings were held and adjourned on the following dates,
July, 6, 7, 8, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 and 18, 1949.
