FROM:
CHARLES THAYER, ACTING CITY ADMINISTRATOR
BOB T.~ENDECKER, DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC WORKS/CIT~ ENGINEER
SUBJECT: R]~ FOR STREET LIGHTING
Staff has reviewed the request for street lighting in the vicinity of the Andrews
Street cul de sac westerly of CharlcmaDrive and adjacent to C.C. Lambert School.
copy of this request is attached for your information.
A
The area in question is indeed a dark area due to the absence of any street lights
westerly of Charlcma Drive. It is estimated that either one or two street lights are
needed in this area· The final layout and number required would be dependent upon
the existing overhead wiring configuration. The area in which these lights would be
located is not within any lighting districts to assess the energy and maintenance
charges.
If the City desires to install street lights within this area, there are two
alternatives at the present time:
Annex the area to the'Tustin Highway Lighting District or to Orange County
Street Lighting MaintenanceDistrictNo. 6., with the City paying all
advance energy charges through December 31, 1981. District would then
assume all energy ormaintenance charges after that date·
City installs the lights and assumes the energy and maintenance costs as an
on-going obligation.
The estimated cost for two street lights, 5800 lumen high pressure sodium vapor
luminaires on marbelite standards wired overhead is $1100-$1300 for initial
installation. Energy and maintenance charges per month per street light is presently
estimated at $13.00-$15.00.
~ION:
That the Tustin City Council, at their meeting of June 15th, authorize staff to
proceed with the annexation to the Tustin Lighting District (OCSI~D 96) of the
subject area and authorize the project to be added to the 1981-82 Capital Improvement
Budget in the amount as follows:
