HomeMy WebLinkAboutNB 2 LICENSE FEES 04-20-81DATE: April 2, 1981 4-20-81 TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY OOUNCIL FROM: DAN BLANK~SHIP, CITY ADMINISTRATOR SUBJ£CT: ,LICENSE ANDPERMIT BOARD FEES The License and Permit Board (City kiministrator, Police representative, an~ Chamber representative) reviews a variety of applications in accordance with the City Code. A number of these hearings are for co~nercial endeavors such as taxi cabs, tow trucks, ambulances, and live entertainment. Others are for non profit charitable corporations which are attempting to raise money through bingo, game nights and other activities. Still others are for co~unity events such as the Tiller Day Parade and Street Faire, and the Tustin Meadows Parade and City Fourth of July Celebration. This review serves a good purpOse but the same $40 fee is charged in all cases (except the City event). I recommend that the City waive the fee or reduce it to $5 for no~-profit charitable organizations and community events in order to reduce costs for such activities and to maximize the funds they have available for their service programs. In three years we have processed 21 applications of such exempt organizations at a revenue of $840 and 34 applications of non-exempt organizations at a revenue of $],360.00 The elimination of that $280 per year in fees woul~ be minor in effect to the City but is not minor to those organizations who are working hard to raise f~qds for worthwhile purposes. If you concur in this viewpoint, it would be appropriate for Council to direct the City Attorney to draft ~l ordinance implementing such a change.
