TO:
DAN BLANKENSHIP, CITY ADMINISTRATOR
BOB LEDENDECKER, DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC WORKS/CITY ENGINEER
SUBJECT: MYFORD RD. AND JAMBOREE RD. INTERCHANGES WITH THE SANTA ANA FREEWAY
Attached is a resolution that authorizes the Director of Public Works' participation
in an engineering planning study for the Myford Road and Jamboree Road interchanges
with the Santa Ana Freeway.
Recently, the cities of Tustin and Irvine have completed general plan land use and
circulation element amendments in the vicinity of the interchange study areas.
Subsequently, the Irvine Company {TIC} has undertaken specific land use and
circulation studies in preparation of future planned community regulations.
The future geometric design for both the Hyford Rd. and Jamboree Rd. interchanges can
substantially affect land use planning in the immediate area, therefore TIC has
initiated a detailed alternatives analysis.
Representatives from Tustin and Irvine have met recently with Caltrans engineers to
obtain design input for the Subject interchanges. As a result of this meeting, the
Caltrans staff has requested that each City Council adopt the Resolutions authorizing
the engineering and planning effort. This resolution is necessary since there are no
local, state or private construction funding commitments at this time. Approval of
this resolution will result in no' direct costs to the City, but will require some
staff time which will be absorbed within existing budgets. TIC will be responsible
for the costs associated with the alternative geometric design studies.
These studies will, hopefully, accelerate the ultimate completion of these
interchanges and the eventual realignment of Harvard-Myford Roads, so that the Tustin
community may experience some relief to the traffic congesiton along Red Hill Ave.
They will also provide for the orderly development of recently annexed land northerly
of the Santa Ana Freeway. The City of Irvine has taken a similar action at their
meeting of March 10, 1981.
RECOMMENDATION:
That the Tustin City Council at their meeting of March 16, 1981 adopt the attached
resolution entitled:
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CiTY OF TUSTIN
