HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC MINUTES 1947 12 15 MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TUSTIN, HELD IN THE CITY HALL OF TUSTIN, MONDAY EVENING AT 7:00 O'OLOCK DECEMBER 15,. 1947 PRESENT WERE: COUNCILMEN: KIDD, CHARLETON, HUMESTON, BACON & FORNEY. ABSENT WERE: COUNCILMEN: NONE : CITY ATTORNEY C. ARTHUR NISSON,. JR. WAS PRESENT, ALSO CITY ENGINEER, J.L. MCBRIDE. MT. VIEW ATTORNEY FRED JOHNSON AND HIS DELEGATION, BEING PARKING PRESENT, WERE ASED TO TAKE UP THE CONTROVERSY OF THE CURB MARKING AT FIRST AND MT. VIEW AND HE DIS- PLAYED A MAP AND PICTURES TO BEAR OUT THEIR CON- TENTION OF A POSSIBLE SAVING OF PARKING SPACE. ACCORDING TO THE MAP 36 FEET IS IN THE RED AND THE PICTURES THAT WERE DISPLAYED SHOW THE POSSIBILITY OF GETTING IN NEW PARKING SPACE AND THE POSSIBILITY OF CHANGING THE BUS STOP BACK TO THE CORNERR AND TO ALSO ESTABLISH IT AT YORBA STREET WAS DISCUSSED. A COMMITTEE CONSISTING OF COUNCILMAN HUMESTON, COUN- CILMAN CHARLETON, AND CHIEF MCMULLEN WAS APPOINTED BY THE MAYOR FOR A GET TOGETHER WITH THE ATTORNEY JOHNSON AND PROPERTY OWNERS WITH THE IDEA OF WORKING OUT A SOLUTION AT THE NEXT MEETING. D STREET CITY ENGINEER, J.L. MCBRIDE WAS BEFORE THE COUNCIL REPAIR AND GAVE AN EXPLANATION OF A PROJECT STATEMENT SUB- MITTED UNDER THE DATE OF DECEMBER 9, 1947, SHOWING BUDGETING AVAILABLE ON THE 1/4 CENT STATE GAS TAX FUND FOR THE IMPROVEMENT OF D STREET ON ROUTE 2 AND FOR THE GENERAL MAINTENANCE. THE CONSTRUCTION OR REPAIR FOR D STREET SHOWS $3712.03. THIS CONSTRUCTION WILL INCLUDE 22 INCHES OF BLACK TOPPED SURFACE FOR 101 HIGHWAY OR D STREET, FROM FIRST TO NEWPORT. THE MAINTENANCE $500.00, STRIPING $150.00, AND SIGN FLASHING LIGHTS $180.00. COUNCILMAN CHARLETON MOVED TO APPROVE THE STATE HIGHWAY PROJECT IMPROVEMENT OF ROUTE 2 AND AUTHORIZE THE CLERK TO SIGN THE SAME. COUNCILMAN BACON SECOND THE MOTION. MOTION CARRIED. TANK FILLERS THE COUNCIL DIRECTED THE CITY ATTORNEY TO WRITE BE REMOVED PROPERTY OWNERS OF HARBOR GAS SERVICE STATION TO REMOVE GASOLINE TANK FILLER CAPS FROM THE SIDEWALK. WATER WALTER RAWLINGS, SUPERINTENDENT OF THE TUSTIN WATER REPORT WORKS, GAVE AN ACCOUNT TO THE COUNCIL OF THE EXTENT OF HIS COVERAGE FOR DOMESTIC WATER SUPPLY FOR THE CITY AND THE ACCOUNT WAS RATHER REASSURING IN THAT THE WATER DISTRIBUTING AGENCY WOULD NOT BE AFFECTED FOR ANY SUBDIVISIONS THAT MAY BE BUILT UP NORTH OR EAST OF THE CITY THAT WOULD AFFECT THE AMOUNT OF SUPPLY TO FURNISH TUSTIN AS THE TUSTIN SUPPLY CONSTITUTES ONLY 1/3 OF THE WATER COMPANIES DISTRIBUTOR. MR. RAWLINGS ALSO POINTED OUT THAT THERE WAS NOW BEING INSTALLED LARGER PIPE MAINS WHICH WILL GIVE BETTER PRESSURE FOR THE CITIES USE. CORRESPON- A LETTER FROM THE FIRE DEPARTMENT RECOMMENDING JEROME DENCE C. KIDD AS FIRE CHIEF AND FOR ASSISTANT FIRE CHIEF, BOB GOETTING WAS RECEIVED AND PASSED ON BY THE MOVE OF COUNCILMAN CHARLETON AND SECOND BY COUNCILMAN FORNEY. THE RECOMMENDATIONS WERE UNANIMOUSLY ACCEPTED BY THE COUNCIL. A LETTER FROM THE TUSTIN PYTHIAN ASSOCIATION BY W.S. LEINBERGER, SECRETARY, INFORMED THE COUNCIL THAT THE RENT OF THE HALL WOULD BE INCREASED TO $40.00 BEGINNING JANUARY 1, 1948. AN APPLICATION IN WRITING WAS MADE BY MR. A.C. GILLESPIE FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A USED CAR LOT ON THE NORTH EAST CSRNER OF THIRD AND D STREET, WAS RECEIVED AND PASSED ON FAVORABLY FOR THE LICENSE TO BE ISSUED. BILLS COUNCILNAN CHARLETON NOVED TO PAY THE FOLLOWING BILLS. COUNCILMAN FORNEY SECOND THE MOTION. MOTION CARRIED. MOTOR FUELS LTD. $5.75 A.N. CRAIN, M.D. $5.00 HUGHEY & PHILLIPS $16.40 CARL J.
