RPT 1 TUSTIN GARDENS 01-19-81
DATE: FROH: SUBJECT: January 12, 1981 Dan Blankenship, CityAdministrator ~ Royleen A. White, Director of Community Servic~s~y/f VACANCIES AT TUSTIN GARDENS 1,-19-81 · ~ '~ .C© At present, management at Tustin Gardens reports that they have a waiting list of 700 names, and they are not accepting any new names. (They anticipate that it will take at least five years to go through the 700 names.) The current waiting list is a result of our original list and their original list. As I understand it, people on both lists were mailed a letter to see if they were still interested; if they were, then 'they mailed back a form to G & K Management. The returned forms were then utilized to make up the list from which the initial move-ins and subsequent vacancies have been filled. At the time a vacancy occurs, the list is consulted and the first person "up" is contacted. Each person considered must qualify under HUD guidelines before they are authorized to move in. G & K assures us that those who do not qualify are told why. However, one must remember that should the HUD guidelines state a certain number of minorities are needed and should one of the minority residents die or move, obviously the first person on the list will not be contacted unless he or she is a minority. At this point I see no advantage to contacting HUD and asking for an investi- gation, since we "bent" the rules a bit in assisting with compilation of the original list. However, if you feel I should go further with this, please let me know. As a point of information, Ruby Serpa passed away in December. Her husband, Roy, is still acting as resident manager. Also, a senior housing project is being built in Costa Mesa, and should be ready in April. RAW:ss
