White, Director of Community Service~ PYROMUSICAL SHOW FOR 1981 FOURTH OF JULY CELEBRATII Planning is underway to produce a high-quality Fourth of July show in 1981. PyroSpectaculars, the firm who did the 1980show, and Zambelli, another prominent firm, have been contacted regarding the 1981 show. A representative from Zambelli met with staff and agreed to submit a proposal; however no proposal was received from Zambelli. PyroSpectaculars has submitted a proposal for a pyromusical, which appears to be of the same high quality as the show they produced in 1980. It is themed, "The American Cowboy," and covers an aspect of our heritage which is very popular right now. A patriotic theme is also an integral part of this show. Last year's pyromusical cost $6,200, including the fireworks, music, narration, pyrotechnician, insurance coverage, permits, sales tax, and rental of the sound system. This year's quote is $6,650 for the same coverage, an increase of only 7.3%. Staff feels this is a reasonable price, well within the $9,000 budgeted by Council for the entire project. The Tustin Unified School District has again pledged cooperation in the co-sponsorship of the show. Confirmation regarding utilization of Northrup Stadium has been received, per the attached letter. Due to the extensive support which the School District gives this event, I recommend they be listed in all promotional materials as co-sponsor of the event. Authorization to sign the contract with PyroSpectaculars is requested at this Council meeting because the quoted price is only good if the contract is signed by December 30, 1980. After that time, the show will cost us $7,200. Since we were pleased with last year's show, it seems logical to proceed with contract finalization now and save $550. Further planning regarding other details of the 1981 Celebration will commence in January, and Council will be informed as we progress towards an even more spectacular "Fourth" in 1981!!! RECOMMENDATIONS: 1. Authorize staff to execute contract with PyroSpectaculars for 1981 . pyromusical show in amount of $6,650. 2. Authorize staff to invite Tustin Unified School District to co-sponsor the event.
