HomeMy WebLinkAboutNB 8 SIGN CODE EXCEP 12-01-80NEW BUSINESS DATE: December 1, 1980 Inter-Corn TO: FROM: SUBJECT: Honorable Mayor and City Council Members Community Development Department Request for Sign Code Exception BACKGROUND AND DISCUSSION: Staff has received an application from Ernest G. Rauda of B & F Shoes request- ing authorization to display two (2) front wall business identification signs at the firm's Larwin Square store, 528 East First Street. This application has been made pursuant to Section 1 of Article VII of the Sign Ordinance No. 684. Staff has issued permits for signs which conform to the Larwin Square Master Sign Plan and the Tustin Sign Code which include: One - 45 sq. ft. front wall sign. One - 5 sq. ft. under-marquee sign (double-face) The requested added sign is 4.5' x 2' (9 sq. ft.) which will face the pedes- trian walkway. FINDINGS: The sign code authorized only one (1) front wall business identification sign and one (1) under-marquee business I.D. sign. The allowable front wall sign area (not including the under-marquee sign) is 55°8 sq. ft. The aggregate area of the proposal is 54 sq. ft. 3. The business will receive some customer visibility from the walkway from the under-marquee sign. 4. Authorization for the City council to grant this exception/is provided in Section lA(3) of Article VII: ~ "Proposed signing does not exceed more than one in number nor more than 15% in area of the aggregate size*of signs authorized by the criteria of the district." A finding of hardship is not required for approval. RECOMMENDED ACTION: Pleasure of the City Council. If the Council approves the request it is recommended that the following condition be applied: City Council Request for Sign Code Exception December 1, 1980 page 2. "Authority to install a second front wall business I.D. sign is granted in - lieu of any permanent window signing. The applicant, by installation of the approved sign waives rights to any permanent window signs." AGW:mm
