HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC MINUTES 1947 02 03 MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TUSTIN, HELD IN THE CITY HALL OF TUSTIN, MONDAY NIGHT AT 7 O'CLOCK, FEBRUARY 3, 1947 PRESENT WERE: COUNCILMEN: KIDD, CHARLETON, FORNEY AND BACON ABSENT WERE: COUNCILMEN: NONE MAYOR KIDD CALLED THE MEETING TO ORDER AND THE MINUTES WERE ORDERED ADOPTED AS READ BY THE MAYOR. MRS. CAMPBELL, POSTMISTRESS, OF TUSTIN HAD BEEN INVITED TO COME BEFORE THE COUNCIL FOR A DISCUSSION ON THE NEEDS WE FEEL AT THIS TIME IN GETTING TUSTIN IN POSITION TO RECEIVE AN EQUIABLE BENEFIT FROM THE STATES FUNDS SUCH AS ALCOHOL BEVERAGES, GASOLINE'S CENTS GAS TAX AND THE AUTO LICENSE TAX ALL DISTRIBUTED ON THE CENSUS BASIS AND CONSIDERING THAT TUSTIN IS RATED FAR BELOW THE ACTUAL POPULATION, AND MRS. CAMPBELL EXPLAINED THAT MUCH OF THE TROUBLE WAS THAT MANY OF THE PEOPLE OF TUSTIN GET THEIR MAIL ON THE SANTA ANA ROUTE AND AS A RESULT WERE NOT CREDITED AS BELONGING TO TUSTIN. SHE EXPLAINED THAT THE POSTAL AUTHORITIES WOULD DO ALL POSSIBLE TO AID THE CITY AND BELIEVED THAT WE COULD NOW QUALIFY FOR MAIL DELIVERY IF THE CENSUS WERE TAKEN AT THIS TIME. HER REPORT WAS VERY ENLIGHTNING AND WAS MUCH APPRECIATED BY THE MEMBERS OF THE COUNCIL. COUNCILMAN CHARLETON T MOVED THAT THE CITY PREPARE TO TAKE THE CENSUS OR HAVE IT DONE AND COUNCILMAN HUMESTON SECONDED THE MOTION. MOTION CARRIED. COUNCILMAN HUMESTON REPORTED THAT THEY EXPECTED TO GET THE NUMBERS PAINTED ON THE CURBS SOON. POLICE CHIEF, MCMULLEN PLACED BEFORE THE COUNCIL A REQUEST FOR MORE SALARY. COUNCILMAN HUMESTON STATED THAT HE WAS IN FAVOR OF A SMALL RAISE IN PAY FOR THE MEN THAT WORK ON THE STREET. COUNCILMAN CHARLE- TON (STREET COMMISSIONER) STATED THAT THE MATTER WOULD BE TAKEN UP AT THE NEXT MEETING. ON THE MOTION T OF COUNCILMAN FORNEY AND SECONDED BY COUNCILMAN CHARLE- TON THE CITY ATTORNEY, NISSON, WAS INSTRUCTED TO WRITE A LETTER TO THE FIRST ASSISTANT POST MASTER GENERAL. ON THE MOTION OF COUNCILMAN HUMESTON AND SECONDED BY COUNCILMAN CHARLETON THE FOLLOWING BILLS WERE ORDERED PAID TUSTIN CEMENT PIPE $12.18 CHAS. E. MORRIS $24.30 UTILITIES $43.87 LOIS FOLKNER $29.25 RADIO TEL. EQ. $17.00 LEE'S P.D.Q. SER $24.36 RASMUSSEN $49.50 COUNCILMAN CHARLETON MOVED TO ADJOURN THE MEETING.
