DATE: AUGUST 18, 1980 TO: ~0~: SUBJECT: DAN BLANKENSHIP, CITY ADMINISTRATOR HUGH WEST, MAINTENANCE SUPERINTENDENT ACCEPTANCE OF BID FOR TRASH TRAILER Specifications for a demolition-type, two-axle, end dump semi-trailer were sent out on July 29, 1980 to Utility Trailer Company and Fruehauf Corporation requesting bids. Utility trailer Company and Fruehauf Corporation, both of Los Angeles, are the only two companies in this area that manufacture this type of trailer. Bids were received as follows: Utility Trailer Company ................ (including all tax) $24,183.80 Fruehauf Corporation ................... (including all tax) $20,648.80 Amount budgeted was $26,500. Both Utility ~ler and Fruehauf manufacture fine quality equipment. I visited each one and looked at their merchandise. However, in my opinion, the Freuhauf trailer is more suited to our job and in addition, has a better price. Delivery date is estimated to be 45 to 60 days after receiving the order. RECOMMENDATION: I recommend that Fruehauf Corporation, located at 1444 South Alameda Street, Los Angeles, California, be awarded the bid and a purchase order be issued in the amount of $20,648.80.
