We asked the dealer to bid on vehicles he had in stock on his lot so as to take advantage of the depressed truck market. We looked at some trucks and sent out requests for bids to five truck agencies. White Freight Liner Inc., Long Beach ............. no bid Peterbilt Truck Inc., Anaheim .................... no bid G.M.C. Trucks of Anaheim ......................... no bid International Harvester Trucks, Anahei~m .......... $45,836.22 (includes California State sales tax) Mack Truck Inc., Long Beach ...................... $47,631.10 (includes California State sales tax) Dollar difference between the two bids ............ $ 1,794.88 International Harvester did not meet the minimum specifications furnished them and in doing so, they are short equipment worth more that $1,794.88. Example: 1. Specifications call for a 12 speed transmission. International Harvester's truck has 9 speeds. We called for extra frame bracing between cub and rear axle. International Harvester did not meet this requirement. Also, we specified sway bars on the rear axles. They failed to meet this requirement. ~ 'Mack Truck Inc. met all specifications and in some'cases furnished better equipment than was specified.
