PURCHASE OF DIESEL TRUCK FOR TRASH HAULING
We went out with bids to the dealers with minimum requirements for the diesel
tractor. We asked the dealer to bid on vehicles he had in stock on his lot
so as to take advantage of the depressed truck market. We looked at some
trucks and sent out requests for bids to five truck agencies.
White Freight Liner Inc., Long Beach ............. no bid
Peterbilt Truck Inc., Anaheim .................... no bid
G.M.C. Trucks of Anaheim ......................... no bid
International Harvester Trucks, Anahei~m .......... $45,836.22
(includes California State sales tax)
Mack Truck Inc., Long Beach ...................... $47,631.10
(includes California State sales tax)
Dollar difference between the two bids ............ $ 1,794.88
International Harvester did not meet the minimum specifications furnished
them and in doing so, they are short equipment worth more that $1,794.88.
Example:
1. Specifications call for a 12 speed transmission. International
Harvester's truck has 9 speeds.
We called for extra frame bracing between cub and rear axle.
International Harvester did not meet this requirement. Also,
we specified sway bars on the rear axles. They failed to meet
this requirement. ~
'Mack Truck Inc. met all specifications and in some'cases furnished better
equipment than was specified.
