Staff has reviewed this request and is in concurrence. However, it is felt that this parking prohibition should be expanded to include both sides of Medford Avenue betweer Carroll Way and Yorba Street. Carroll Way and Medford Avenue is classified as a local collector street with sixty (60) feet of right-of-way width and forty (40) feet roadway between curbs. Yorba Street southerly of Seventeenth Street is classified as a secondary arterial highway with eighty (80) feet of right-of-way and sixty-four (64) feet between curbs. On - street parking on Yorba Street is prohibited because of the use of painted center medians for protected left turn pockets and other traffic control. Carroll Way pre- sently has three driveway openings each on both the westerly and easterly sides of the street. In addition, the alignment of Carroll Way is curvilinear. Medford Avenue has three driveway openings on the southerly side of the street. The proposed parking removal on both of these streets will not improve the gasoline line problems in the vicinity of the gas station at the northwesterly corner of Seventeenth Street and Carroll Way. As of the writing of this Staff report, none of the following businesses have been contacted regarding this proposed on -street parking removal: 1. Ralphs Grocery 2. Manny's Restaurant 3. Chevron Gasoline Station However, a copy of this report will be mailed to each of these businesses so that they may provide any input to the proposed parking restriction. Due to the late date of the fiscal year, there will not be sufficient funds within the signing and striping account to purchase these signs during the 1979-80 fiscal year. Therefore, if the action is approved, it is suggested that purchase and in- stallation be delayed until after the 1980-81 Budget has been adopted sometime after July 1, 1980. RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that the Tustin City Council at their meeting of June 2, 1980 authorize the removal of the on -street parking on both sides of the following DAN BLANKENSHIP MAY 27, 1980 -- Page 2 streets: a. Carroll Way between Seventeenth Street and Medford Avenue b. Medford Avenue between Carroll Way and Yorba Street to be implemented as soon as feasible after July 1, 1980. 79``X ` BOB LEDENDECKER Director of Public Works/ City Engineer — BL:rvm cc: City Clerk — Norm Hower • • ORDINANCES FOR ADOPTION No. 1 4-7-80 AGENDA ITEM: ORDINANCE NO. 824 An Ordinance of the City Council of the City of Tustin, California, PROHIBITING, PARKING AT CERTAIN HOURS IN THE PARKING LOTS ADJACENT TO CENTENNIAL PARK AND AUTHORIZING THE TOWING AWAY OF ILLEGALLY PARKED VEHICLES BACKGROUND: Ordinance No. 824 had first reading by title only and introduction at the March 17, 1980 meeting.
