HomeMy WebLinkAboutOB 1 LITTLE LEAGUE SIGN 4-7-80DATE: April 7, 1980 OLD BUSINESS No. 1 '4~7~80 Inter-Corn TO: FROM: S UBJ ECT: Honorable Mayor and City Council Community Development Department Little League Sign for Columbus-Tusfin Park BACKGROUND AND DISCUSSION Since the March 17, 1980 meeting staff has studied the various signing alterna- tives for Columbus Tustin Park. A telephone survey made by the Recreation Department revealed the following policies governing use of public parks: Orange (City} Garden Grove Santa Aha Lakewood Los Alamlfos Fountain Valley Sfanfon Irvine No signs authorized for sports organizations Authorizes sign display for day of event which must be removed on same day. Authorizes signs for a short period of time. Allows banners only on day of event. Temporary snack bar window signs also. Staff believes that signing, if authorized, should be of a temporary nature and limited in size and location. If the Council were fo determine fhaf such temporary signs are permissible in City parks, the following regulations should be directed for implementation by Parks and Recreation Department: A. Banner signs, limited to display during sports activities. B. Temporary signs designed to be located in the park during a specific event, but easily removed for storage. 1. "A" frame OF sled mounted signs. 2. Sign posts mounted in ground sleeves. 3. Wall signs hung from fasteners on the existing snack shop/restroom. 4. Maximum area not fo exceed 64 sq. ff. and should not exceed the roof height. 5. Prohibit sponsor adverfisin9. 6. Construction plan should be submitted by the League to the satis- faction of the Building Official which will indicate the materials and method of attachment fo the building. A program should be instituted by the Recreation Department to ensure that all sport organizations have access fo the sign area during designated sport seasons.
