HomeMy WebLinkAboutRPT 3 RETIREMENT MEMO 02-04-80DATE: January 29, 1980 Report later-eom TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council FROM: Dan Blankenship, City Administrator SUBJ[CT: Attached Memo Regarding Retirement The attached request appears to be very reasonable except the City Attorney and I do not believe that public monies should be spent for "gifts". Certainly the people in question deserve the real appreciation of the City, but it is believed that any gifts should be paid for by those attending through contributions or the cost of the dinner. It is also appropriate to develop a consistent policy for retirements in the future. I would propose the following in brief: Department Heads Retirement After 10 years of service 1. City will pay for invitations and mailing. 2. Plaque in appreciation of service. 3. Complimentary dinner for retiree and guest. 4. Flowers for head table and corsage for female employee or female guest. 5. City cost for above not to exceed $175.00. Employees Retirement After 10 years of service 1. Plaque in appreciation for service. 2. Complimentary dinner for retiree and guest. 3. Corsage for female employee or female guest. 4. City cost not to exceed $100.00. After 20 years of service 1. Same as above. 2. Flowers for head table also. 3. City will pay for invitations and mailing. 4. City total cost not to exceed $175.00. In General 1. The retiring employee's department will make the arrangements and handle the program. 2. The above only applies to an actual retirement from City service and not a termination or change of employment unless otherwise approved by Council.
