HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC MINUTES 1942 06 15 MINUTES OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF TME CITY OF TUSTIN, HELD IN THE CITY HALL OF TUSTIN JUNE 15,1942 8 P.M. Present Were Councilman Kidd, Rawlings, Cawthon and Forney absent Councilmen Bixler Reading of the minutes of June 1st was had and approved 3rd St Mrs Humphrey, safety committee chairman for the P.T.A. Asso- Closing ciation of the Primary School led a deligation before the Council in an effort to have 3rd Street, between C & B streets closed. There were several who spoke on what they thought a necessity of having the Street closed for the safety of the children playing on the school grounds. Among the several to speak were Mrs Albert Thorman President of the group and Mr. Charlton and, also Mrs. Marshal Burke P.T.A. President of the the High School Group. the speakers claimed to represent at least 200 persons and felt that its representation should have some consideration. Mr Ed Kiser Chief of the Fire Dept. did not agree with them and with Mr. Phillip Ebell opposed the closing the Street and sighted the disadvantage of ser- ving the City on the west side in case of fire and, there were some sixty names signed on a petition that backed their argument. After the lengthy discussion Councilman Forney moved that the Council procede with declaring the Street Vacated and closed as he saw no good reason not to do so Councilman Roll- -lings seconed the motion, Councilman Cawthon opposed and the Mayor Kidd did not Vote. The motion carried and it was so orded. A further discussion on the closing of theStreet, the legel methods and the further considering caused the Council to Uanimously deside to have the Citys Attorney Bradley to look into the posibility of getting the matter before the People to settle by the ballot. The subject wes suspended at this for a final disposation at tna next meeting. Agreement on Property On the motion of Councilman Rowlingsand seconded by Councilman of Defense Forney the Mayor and Clerk was autherised to sign a property agreement with A.A.Beard of the Co-Ordernators Office on the equipment furnished Tustin and vacinity. Building Code adpt. Councilman Cawthon moved that that the uniform Building code be adopted the motion was seconded by Councilman Forney and having no opposition the motion carried and was so orded. Attorney to City Attorney Bradley stated that he was preparing a suit- prepare an able Electrical and Plumbing code for the City. Electrical and plumbing Chief Clayborn stated that he was investigating the Trailor Codes Camps and had contacted tne County Health department to see if they were living up to the requirements in sanitation. Street Superintendent Clayborn was appointed Co-Ordinator on the salvage drive to be made for the City the Clerk is to be the Superintendants Assistant. Landis Hired pemrmently On the Motion of Councilman Cawthon seconed be Councilman Forney W.H.Landis was installed permently in the job that was vacated by the reconation of Earl Handley at the same rate of Pay 120.00 per month. The Council decided to notify the Board of Supervisors that did not think it advisable to continue to have the Constable and Justices office in the City Hall on account of the lack of room to accomidate the several departments and instructed the Clerk to notify them of their decission and to ask if the Board wished to sell any of the equipment here in the City Hall. City Attorney having reported favorable on the Mutual ade fire agreement for the Cities of the County The Council Unimously agreed to enter into the agreement, and the Mayor and Clerk were autherized to sign the same. 393 Bills as follows were presented and orded paid on the motion of Councilman Rollings and seconed by Councilman Forney as the motion Carried and the order was made the Mayor Kidd. E.Morris Small bills 8.70 No further business coming before the meeting Councllman Cawthon Moved that the meetins be adjourned the motion was seconed by Councilman Rollings and the motion Carried and was so Orded.
