MARCH 8, 2004 7:00 p.m. CALL TO ORDER Given PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE All present ROLL CALL None PUBLIC CONCERNS Approved CONSENT CALENDAR 1. APPROVAL OF MINUTES - FEBRUARY 23, 2004, PLANNING COMMISSION MEETING. PUBLIC HEARINGS Adopted Resolution 2. No. 3908 CONDITIONAL USE PERMIT 04-003 REQUESTING AUTHORIZATION TO ALLOW A VETERINARY OFFICE THAT WOULD TREAT DOMESTIC ANIMAL CANCER. THIS PROJECT IS LOCATED AT 2887 EDINGER AVENUE, BUILDING 15, IN THE PLANNED COMMUNITY INDUSTRIAL (PC-IND) ZONING DISTRICT. RECOMMENDATION: That the Planning Commission adopt Resolution No. 3908 approving Conditional Use Permit 04-003. REPORT OF ACTIONS TAKEN AT THE MARCH 1,2004, CITY COUNCIL MEETING. The interviews have been set at 5:15 p.m., March 15,2004, for the Planning Commission vacancies. COMMISSION CONCERNS Stated it was his honor and pleasure to work with Linda Jennings on the Planning Commission; the City should be thankful to have her in its midst. Indicated several residents have expressed major concerns regarding the Red Hill and 1-5 freeway expansion project, especially during the morning hour traffic around the Starbucks center when students are walking to Tustin High School; and, asked if Public Works has any contingency plans to alleviate the vehicular and pedestrian congestion. Asked that the meeting be adjourned in memory of Barbara Benson, one of the great citizens of Tustin whose civic involvement was quite amazing. Added that the pedestrian traffic is one of the most dangerous elements of the Red Hili/EI Camino Real intersection. Expressed his feeling of honor in sitting on the Planning Commission with Linda Jennings. Referred to her long history of involvement with Chairperson Jennings in many endeavors; and, stated it was a joy to serve on the Planning Commission with her. Added his congratulations and thanks to Linda Jennings for her service to the City and to the Planning Commission. Congratulated all the people who voted; noted the defeat of Proposition 56; and, stated everyone must remain vigilant regarding the funding of local government in the future. Stated it was an honor and a privilege to serve on the Planning Commission; indicated she learned a great deal about land use, Action Agenda - Planning Commission 3-8-04 - Page 2 7:20 p.m. In Memory of Barbara Benson government, and politics which was enlightening; added that it was a joy to get to know and work with everyone on the Planning, Engineering/Public Works, and legal staffs; and, thanked everyone for their assistance during her experience. Noted that she worked with Barbara Benson for many years; she was an extraordinary woman who will be missed. ADJOURNMENT The next regular meeting of the Planning Commission is scheduled for Monday, March 22, 2004, at 7:00 p.m. in the Council Chamber at 300 Centennial Way.
