HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC RES 90-1031 2 3 RESOLUTION NO. 90-103 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TUSTIN, CALIFORNIA, ENDORSING MEASURE M 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 WHEREAS, a smoothly operating transportation system is a critical component of the high quality of life enjoyed by Orange County residents; and WHEREAS, this exceptional quality of life is being threatened by growing gridlock and traffic congestion, declining air quality and general lack of mobility; and WHEREAS, 89 percent of the population of California has used the sales tax option for local transportation improvements including every urban county with the exception of Orange County; and WHEREAS, without a local transportation revenue source Orange County is at a serious competitive disadvantage in securing matching funds generated from Propositions 111 and 108; and WHEREAS, Measure M is the result of thousands of man-hours of input from community groups, business organizations, elected officials and technical experts; and WHEREAS, Measure M offers a balanced approach to the transportation solution by providing immediate short-termrelief on our freeways and streets and roads, while providing for the long-term development and construction of a countywide state-of- the-art rail transit program; and WHEREAS, through a one-of-a-kind growth management program Measure M provides for good transportation and land use planning, improved cooperation between neighboring cities and strict requirements that development pays its fair share; and WHEREAS, Measure M improves the air quality of Orange County and the region by providing for transportation systems and demand management, and complying with federal and state requirements and with the Air Quality Management District and Southern California Association of Governments Regional Mobility Plan, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Tustin City Council recognizes the positive transportation benefits of Measure M to both the City of Tustin and the entire County of Orange; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Tustin City Council endorses Measure M on the November 6, 1990, General Election ballot; and 28 Page 2 ~ Resolution ..Oo 90-103 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Tustin city Council will use City funds generated from Measure M for needed transportation improvements in the City of Tustin, including, but not limited to the extension of Tustin Ranch Road to Edinger Avenue and the extension of Newport Avenue to Edinger Avenue.
