TO: WILLIAM A. HUSTON, CITY MANAGER
FROM: COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT
SUBJECT: 2006 COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT YEAR IN REVIEW
RECOMMENDATION
That the City Council receive and file.
BACKGROUND AND DISCUSSION:
At the January 15, 2007 meeting, Mayor Pro Tem Amante requested a presentation to the City
Council, on 2006 Community Development Department Year in Review that is provided to the
Planning Commission on an annual basis (Attachment 1). Throughout the year staff provides the
Planning Commission with a status of projects that the Planning Commission, Zoning
Administrator, Community Development Director or staff approved; major improvement projects;
and, other items of interest. The Community Development Department Activity - Year in
Review briefly describes the total number of discretionary projects (i.e., Conditional Use
Permits, Design Reviews, Subdivision Maps, etc.), major accomplishments for various
functional areas within the Community Development Department, and Building Division activity.
Also attached is a copy of the Monthly Building Activity Report that was prepared for December
2006 (Attachment 2). While the information that was provided in the Year in Review
summarized Building Activity by the calendar year, this document provides Building Activity for
the City.by month and Fiscal Year to date. While this data is used for a wide variety of purposes
within the City, this data is also used more globally at the county and state levels. The City also
is required within the first week of every month to report to the U.S. Department of Commerce -
Census Bureau information including: number of permits issued, numbers of housing units, and
valuation. The Monthly Building Activity Report is the source for the preparation on the Census
Bureau document.
