HUSTON, CITY MANAGER FROM: PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT/ENGINEERING DIVISION SUBJECT: APPROVAL OF SPECIFICATIONS AND AUTHORIZATION TO ADVERTISE FOR BIDS FOR ANNUAL STRIPING AND PAVEMENT MARKINGS PROGRAM FOR FISCAL YEARS 2007/2008 THROUGH 2011/2012 (PROJECT NO. 402-6230) SUMMARY The current contract for the Annual Striping and Pavement Markings Program will soon expire. The specifications for the program have been prepared and the project is now ready to bid. This project will provide for maintenance of existing citywide striping and pavement markings, and installation of new signing, striping and pavement markings at various locations. RECOMMENDA TION It is recommended that the City Council adopt Resolution No. 07 -15 approving the specifications for the Annual Striping and Pavement Markings Program for Fiscal Years 2007/2008 through 2011/2012 and. authorizing the City Clerk to advertise for bids. FISCAL IMPACT Adequate funds are budgeted on an annual basis from the Public Works Department Engineering Division Operating Account No. 01-402-6230 for this program. DISCUSSION The City's Striping and Pavement Markings Program is an annual program that provides for the repainting of existing striping and pavement markings, and also the installation and removal of signing, striping and pavement markings. The program provides for repainting on a case-by- case basis as determined by the field condition of the signing, striping and pavement markings. The current contract is a multi-year contract that will expire on June 30, 2007. It is appropriate to re-bid the contract at this time. The Engineering Division has prepared specifications for this program and is proposing a five-year contract, beginning July 1, 2007, with each year renewable through June 30, 2012, based upon satisfactory performance by the contractor. Upon request from the contractor, the contract prices will be adjusted annually based upon the Consumer Price Index (CPI). Councilltems\Approval of P&S Annual Striping & Raso 07-15 .doc RESOLUTION NO. 07-15 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TUSTIN, CALIFORNIA FOR APPROVAL OF SPECIFICATIONS AND AUTHORIZATION TO ADVERTISE FOR BIDS FOR ANNUAL STRIPING AND PAVEMENT MARKINGS PROGRAM FOR FISCAL YEARS 2007/2008 THROUGH 2011/2012 (PROJECT NO. 402-6230) WHEREAS, it is the intention of the City Council of the City of Tustin, California to maintain existing striping and pavement markings in an acceptable condition and implement new signing, striping and pavement markings as needed at various locations within the City; and WHEREAS, the City Engineer has presented specifications for the implementation of said work; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the specifications presented by the City Engineer are hereby approved as the specifications for: Annual Striping and Pavement Markings Program for Fiscal Years 2007/2008 through 2011/2012 (Project No. 402-6230) BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk is herby authorized and directed to advertise as required by law for the receipt of sealed bids or proposals for performing the work specified in the aforesaid plans and specifications; PASSED AND ADOPTED at a regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Tustin held on the 5th day of February 2007.
