HUSTON, CITY MANAGER CITY CLERK'S OFFICE TO: SUBJECT: CONTINUED ITEM: EVALUATION OF COMMISSION STIPEND SUMMARY: This item was continued from the March 20, 2007 Council meeting for further evaluation. The item has originally placed at the request of Councilmember Kawashima who wanted to evaluate the compensation for the various commissions in the City, following a reorganization of duties. RECOMMENDATION: Pleasure of the City Council. FISCAL IMPACT: To be determined based on city council action. DISCUSSION/BACKGROUND: The City Clerk's Office prepared a survey of Orange County cities In response to Councilmember Kawashima's request. The survey found that 10 out of 34 cities do not provide any compensation to their commissioners. For stipend evaluation purposes, the City Clerk's Office used the Planning Commission, the most common of all commissions, although four cities do not have such a commission or an equivalent (Villa Park, laguna Hills, la Palma, and Cypress). The stipend for the cities that do provide compensation range from $40 per meeting (Orange) to $400 per month for 2 meetings a month (Costa Mesa), with the average being $55.00 per meeting. Commissioners' compensation is set forth by resolution. If requested, staff will return at a future meeting with adjustments as prescribed. 11)~' /!v3tA./ Maria Huizar Chief Deputy City Clerk Attachment: DC Cities Survey ORANGE COUNTY CITIES SURVEY ON COMMISSION COMPENSATION No Compensation Planning Commission No Compensation Planning Commission No Compensation /2 meeting a mo.
